FALL

BENEFITS OF PEELS

layers of cells from the skin’s outer surface. Treatments range in intensity and a client’s skin type and desired results will help the RA Professional determine the best solution and depth of your treatment. Progressive Peels are the mildest course of treatment and do not usually cause immediate exfoliation. Repeated treatments will cause mild sloughing with cumulative effects. These peels are best in a series of 3 treatments spaced closer together, every 2-3 weeks. They are refining, rejuvenation with very minimal downtime. These peels have become the most popular over the years as you can achieve amazing results without changing too much of your lifestyle. Mid-Depth Peels affect the intra-epidermal layer with exfoliation occurring 2-3 days after application. This peel consists of light sunburn-type flaking to some sheet-like peeling around the mouth. This peel may be performed once every 3-4 weeks for a series of 3. They offer great rejuvenation with 3-4 days of peeling. Deep Peels affect the deepest intra-epidermal layers and the skin experiences more significant downtime and peeling. Typically, 3-4 days after application skin will temporarily become brown and crusty before peeling begins. Skin is usually more sensitive and the entire process takes 7-10 days until complete. We recommend this type of peel once or twice a year.

Peels are one of the premier treatments for just about every skin condition! Superficial peels, when properly administered, are one of the most powerful non-surgical skin improvements available. Skin peels remove cellular buildup, stimulate cell renewal and regeneration, reduce fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, textural scarring and oiliness. If that’s not enough, peels also help clear blemishes, lighten hyperpigmentation and can reduce redness and inflammation in Acne and Rosacea skins. Did you know there is research that demonstrates peels may help in the prevention of skin cancers too? We have been on the cutting edge of this information since the early 2000’s. Many of our clientele who were getting regular facials, peels and using homecare would report a clear scan from their dermatologist. In some cases, having their Derm call our studio to find out what we were doing. Controlled exfoliation can bring new life to the skin and bring health to damaged skin cells. The VA Palo Alto Medical Center in California conducted a study on facial resurfacing methods using TCA peels to successfully treat actinic keratoses (AK), the most common skin precancer. These precancerous lesions were reduced by 89% 3 months after treatment with a 30% TCA chemical peel. The same study demonstrated a reduction in basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas by 40% in the 4-5 years following treatment. TCA is a key ingredient in many of our peel formulas. We blend TCA with other acids including salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy and kojic acids to help with resurfacing the skin and to bring balance to the skin condition we are peeling. And we believe very similar results would happen with other exfoliating acids we use for chemical peeling. A series of lighter peels with a retinol boost, in addition to consistent ongoing home care using retinal, in addition to l-mandelic, l-lactic and salicylic acids will have a similar impact while also improving the appearance of skin.
