ference is not in the sun but in the material upon which it shines. Phar aoh first hardened his own heart as the Bible says and the Lord just let the natural consequences follow. Q. Burbank, Calif. — “I feel one type of person when I am in church on Sunday, but during the rest of the week I am completely different. Why is this?” A. There could be several reasons for this. It is strange that while most of us feed our bodies 21 times a week (more frequently if we have the chance), we feed our poor souls only once a week. Then we wonder why we are spiritually weak. What we need to do is to keep our minds fixed upon the Lord Jesus Christ all the time. This means reading His Word, having fellowship through prayer in real sincerity and with earnest purpose in our minds and hearts, every day. In this way, when temptations come and problems arise, making us feel like a different per son, we need to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ asking Him to strength en and fill us anew by His Holy Spirit. If you feel saved one day and lost the next, ask yourself if you are depending upon feeling and emotions or actually upon the set tled assurances of the Word of God. The Lord has promised He will save and keep you. He will never go back on His Word. Q. Port Orchard, Wash. — “Will you please explain R eve la tion 13:18. ‘Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hun dred three score and s ix ’ ” A. This chapter shows the sinister workings of two men who have a beast-like character. One comes out of the sea (the nations of the earth), and the other comes up out of the earth (from Israel). The two are 22
God killed all of the firstborn among the Egyptians as well as their live stock. This does not sound to me like a God of love and justice when He Himself made it so that Pharaoh could not let the people go.” A. We do speak of God’s love and justice because the Bible, from Gene sis to Revelation, is full of the match less subject. If it were not so, He would have wiped Adam and Eve off of the face of the earth. There would not be any human family at all. God’s grace saved these two, clothed them with animal skins as a type of salvation, pointing toward His only Son who was the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. God didn’t make Pharaoh do something against his will and then punish him for it. The Lord will not be made a party to sin (James 1: 13). Sin is never necessary in order for God to work out His marvelous plan. God merely brought some cir cumstances around Pharaoh into existence that stirred up the emo tions, attitudes, and hardness which were already there. Remember this old axiom, “the sun that melts the wax also hardens the clay.” The dif-
