whether he was in the body or not when it took place. No one knows what Paul saw. He states that he saw things it was unlawful to utter. He merely indicates or alludes to the experience. If Paul who saw it and heard it wouldn’t he be able to tell it, how shall we describe it who weren’t there in the first place? These are some of the things we have to allow for in the revelation of a future day, when we can ask the Lord in person. Q. Cashmere, Wash. — “In Exodus it is stated that Moses wrote the Ten Commandments. Of course, I ’ve read that many times, but I am toonder ing what sort of a writing it was and in what language? Did he actu ally do it, or did God do it for him?” A. Moses did write the Ten Com mandments. At the same time God did it too. It was the very finger of the Lord. The language most schol ars believe Moses used was in the line of Hebrew, although he was well acquainted with the Egyptian hiero
glyphics. Doubtless it was engraved on clay tablets, not necessarily the large heavy variety such as are often pictured. Even though Moses wrote the actual words, without question he was directed by the Holy Spirit. We do not believe in what is known as “mechanical inspiration.” Each writer had and used his own individ uality, while at the same time he followed the unequivocal dictation of the Lord. Q. San Luis Obispo, Calif. — “Could you clarify a question some of us have regarding the dead in Christ? Does the sold or spirit go immediately to be with the Lord?” A. The phrase “the dead in Christ” occurs in I Thessalonians 4 :16. When a person dies, his soul does go im mediately to be with the Lord. The body is laid away in the grave. When the Lord comes again, the spirits of those who have departed and gone to be with the Lord return with Him. Their bodies are raised and they are given their resurrection bodies, fash ioned like unto His glorious body. Q. Eugene, Ore. — “In I Corinthians 15:8 it is written, and I certainly know it to be true, that Christ died for our sins. Is it also true that we must die for Adam’s sins? Christ suffered a very painful death that day on the cross and many people suffer long periods of time, months and even years for cancer, heart trouble, and all, and then finally die.” A. You are right that Christ’s death is an historical fact. These matters of birth and death no one can deny. Christ’s dying, however, is not all of the Gospel. Included are the facts that He was buried and rose again the third day, according to the Scrip tures (I Cor. 15:1-3). He paid the penalty for us and was the ransom for our sins. We know that we must die for Adam’s wickedness. If Adam 24
