STEWARDSHIP It isn't in throwing your cap in the air And shouting your minister's praise; It isn't in arguing all day long Until you are red in the face. It's to pay as you pray On collection day — That’s stewardship It isn't in swelling a talk-fest brigade And spouting out promises fair; It isn't in shouting encouragement When creedsmen rant and rave.
Wealth as vast as all of heaven! Beauty fairer than the day! Joy with no corrupting leaven Shall go with me all the way! Long I sought this wondrous blessing, Sought by labor under law, Till God's grace reached down, caress ing. Touched my faith— and then I saw! Will you share with me this treasure— Gift of God's amazing grace? 'Twill be more than all earth's meas ure Just to look upon His face! — L. M. Hearn IN PRESS OF BUSINESS I met my Lord one evening When a weary day was done, And the heat and hurt of conflict Faded like the setting sun. Yes, I met Him there at evening As He promised that I would, And my weariness and worry Vanished sweetly where I stood. But I wondered as I met Him At the closing of the day. Felt the healing of His presence In His wonder-working way, Oh, I wondered, and heart aching, As I heard His evening song, How it was I'd missed the Presence Of my Lord the whole day long? Then I heard His kindly answer. And it pierced the soul of me; "When, my son, in all this day-time Have I had one word from thee?" Since that hour I see the Presence Waiting ever at my side— Waiting for some recognition, For the word so oft denied. So I think I know why sometimes His dear Presence seems so dim Just because in press of business I so rarely talk with Him! — A. S. Cushman
It's living day by day In a God-honoring way —
That’s stewardship
It isn't in giving advice, Though it's free and without price; It isn't in boastful bragging About spiritual heights attained.
It's to do your best work And never play the shirk —
That’s stewardship
IN QUIET AND CONFIDENCE In quietness and confidence Thy strength shall ever be, for he That waiteth on the Lord shall know His grace and power continually. In quietness and confidence— This promise comes for heart and life; Oh, hear the Father's voice so clear, Amid the noisy din and strife. In quietness and confidence— What balm for weary, troubled souls! The peace that God alone can give Is thine, when He thy life controls. In quietness and confidence— O precious thought, so sweet and sure! Though earth and heaven pass away. His Holy Word shall still endure. I HAVE FOUND IT! I have found the perfect treasure, Richer than my fondest dream; It is mine and mine forever, Safe from every selfish scheme.
