Metrics and Parameters for Social Shared Spaces: Module 1

Description Positive social trust and connection are essential for human health and happiness. Research suggests that the design of social spaces in multi-unit housing can influence these outcomes. However, housing providers require clear metrics to guide discussions with designers and policymakers about the quality and quantity of spaces for social wellbeing in housing design. Developing a Social Wellbeing Design Audit Tool will bring together research and lessons learned through the Happy Homes knowledge base. The audit tool will translate 48 sociability actions from the Happy Homes project into metrics and criteria for social wellbeing in multi-unit housing. As part of Module 1, the tool will be tested through the audit of one multi-family housing project. Impact Creating a Social Wellbeing Design Audit Tool will provide metrics and criteria for the design of shared social spaces in multi-family housing projects to advance social trust and connection.
