Since we entered a new digitalised era, technologies are evolving quicker and quicker, taking advantage of existing fibre connectivity capabilities and demanding new ones every day. One million or more new Internet of Things (IoT) devices will be sold each hour by 2021, according to a research by Gartner, and the scale of IoT adoption is set to grow at an unprecedented rate. Smart devices are becoming increasingly present throughout homes and offices, with consumers and enterprises alike demanding faster, more reliable connectivity. W ireless networks will play a crucial role supporting the adoption and evolution of these new devices and applications. However, wireless shared networks may offer limitations on the available bandwidth if there are many devices connected to it, or if there are many neighbouring Wi-Fi’s competing over the same frequency bands. This will result in the network becoming congested, compromising the user experience. Consequently, a dedicated link is the safest way to ensure a high- speed internet connection, especially for the applications that require always- on and reliable connectivity. The vast bandwidth capabilities of fibre optics has opened new doors for operators, service providers and developers, who are eager to capitalise on the service delivery and revenue opportunities only fibre can offer. REQUIREMENTS OF THE WIRELESS REVOLUTION Over the last ten years, the evolution of our connected world has been remarkable, with the number of things that can be connected growing exponentially.
