|| ' h e tongue can no man tame; it is an unru ly evil, full o f deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. M y brethren, these things ought not so to be” (James 3 :8 -10 ). Christian, are YOU guilty? Not necessarily of direct profane cursing ( that, too, perhaps) , but of biting, sarcastic criticism or gossip? “ Then said I, W oe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst o f a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: | And he laid it upon m y mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and % thy sin purged” (Isaiah 6 :5 -7 ). Christian, do YOU need purging? Only with such ,. a purging can w e say with Christian truthfulness: “ M y I lips shall not speak wickedness, nor m y tongue utter r, deceit” (Job 2 7 :4 ), or “ Keep thy tongue from evil, A and thy lips from speaking guile” (Psalm 34 :13 ). Christian, should not this be our constant prayer: \ “ Set a watch, O Lord, before m y mouth; keep the I door o f m y lips” (Psalm 141 :3). If we are to have consecrated lips, as the lips o f all I Christians should be, we must first have a consecrated I heart: “ A good man out o f the good treasure of his heart ’ bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out o f the evil treasure o f his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for o f the abundance of the heart f his mouth speaketh” (Luke 6 :45 ). And finally, Christian, as well as following all the admonitions above, your consecrated lips will confess Him to men: Jesus Christ said: “ I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son o f man also confess before the angels of God: But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God” (Luke 12 : 8 , 9 ) . — Jack Leigh Material available in printed form from the American Tract Society, 513 West 166th Street, New York 32, N.Y.
