personal evangelism by Benjamin Weiss

THE GREAT NEED r 'oR s o m e time I have felt the lack of something that I do not under stand. This may be it.” This state ment was made after he had heard I the testimony of a Christian who found that Christ satisfied his every need. Interesting work and success still left a feeling of need and in adequacy in the first person, who is | a successful person, a pilot on a trans- I continental passenger airline. With all this there remained a lack of satis- | faction and completeness. There are many who feel they are missing something important. They have the means and the ability and should be able to secure satisfaction. But it is so intangible and just out of reach. Every possible way is tried. New interests in an avocation or public service through a civic or ganization may be sought as the an swer. Pleasure and the social activi ties are also exploited. In the quiet ness of a wakeful night the vacuum still remains. It becomes more ap parent with such effort in the wrong direction. How should they know? No one has ever stopped to offer them a drink of living water so that the first would be eternally satisfied. They think that this ache and void is peculiar to them. They may blame it on having married the wrong mate. They may think it is the wrong occupation or profession they have chosen, or they may contribute it to something in their past experience which is caus ing this inner deficiency. The cause is much deeper. It is a hunger only God can satisfy. They are anxious to hear. They even are waiting to be invited to come to God and receive this. On a bus a soldier sat down near a Christian. They engaged in casual conversation. The soldier was on leave returning to his home. Experiences out of daily life were the topic of conversation. When the Christian told how God had cared for him and satisfied his every need, the soldier became deep ly interested. He heard about the very thing he lacked. On a bus with other people sitting near they prayed, and the soldier found that for which he longed so eagerly. Yes, this is what everyone needs. It is our gracious privilege to tell them. Tell them about Him who satis fies this great need.
