SPOTLIGHT DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING

Erin Bassett Growing up in Grand Haven, MI, where the lake is on “the other side,” it would be easy to assume that everything would feel backwards for an outsider at Scheurer Health. However, it was just the opposite for Erin on her first visit, already a decade and a half ago. She immediately felt at home with the staff and patients here in the Thumb of Michigan. “My first impression of Scheurer was noticing how much of a family vibe there was and still exists to this day. Everyone was friendly. Everyone was welcoming. It was just a really good feeling walking through the door.” As a sonographer, Erin’s day features a different set of challenges every single day from providing ultrasounds to X-rays to 3D Mammography, CT scans, bone density tests and everything inbetween. It was that variety and ability to make a difference that set Erin on her career path. “What captured my interest in wanting to be a sonographer was simply the fact that I knew that I wanted to help people. I went and job shadowed different careers and when I saw a thyroid biopsy for the first time, that was the moment I knew that this is what I wanted to do with my life.” “In our department, we have truly become a family. We fight, we make up, we hug each other, we go out and do activities together and it’s just an amazing feeling knowing we each have each other’s backs.”
