ELEMENT 2.3 - DROPPED OBJECTS PREVENTION AND SAFE TETHERING PRACTICES
Learning objectives:
22) The participants can show interest and have awareness of tethering and safe working practices in demanding situations such as emergency procedures and drills, where tools and equipment may be hastily handled or misplaced (Ability, basic level)
23) The participants can take responsibility for identifying loose items that could potentially become a dropped object (Ability, intermediate level)
24) The participants can act independently to ensure that only approved tethering systems are used in compliance with company-specific standards (Ability, intermediate level)
25) The participants can take responsibility of performing buddy checks of tethering on colleagues prior to and during working at height (Ability, intermediate level)
26) The participants can explain potential increased hazards from adverse environmental conditions in relation to dropped objects and the need for tethering (Knowledge, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Facilitate group discussions on what could potentially become a dropped object
Inspire the participants to share experiences from work situations, where haste or other constraints did or could have led to poor work safety including challenges faced when handling equipment in extreme environmental conditions
Provide feedback to the participants on their presented conclusions and add further examples if appropriate
In a practical exercise, present participants with different hand tools and tether equipment, asking them to point out the following 3 points:
a.
tethering point (on the tool)
b.
