46) Take responsibility for working safely to reduce the risk of injury arising from dropped objects in and around wind turbines (Ability, intermediate level)

ELEMENT 7.1 - RISKS

Learning objective:

47) The participants can explain the risks posed by dropped objects (Knowledge, intermediate level)

48) The participants can take responsibility for securing tools, equipment, accessories, minor components, items, and parts by adequately tethering to prevent dropped objects (Ability, intermediate level)

49) The participants can show interest in taking correct precautions to prevent dropped objects when encountering adverse environmental conditions (Ability, basic level)

50) The participants can explain potential increased hazards from adverse environmental conditions in relation to dropped objects and the need for tethering (Knowledge, intermediate level)

The instructor shall:

Explain the risks posed by dropped objects

Explain which items constitute a dropped object hazard

Describe typical injuries that can occur as a result of a dropped object

Present a selection of hand tools and relevant tethering systems so that the participants can identify the 3 following points:

a.

tethering point (on the tool)

b.

tether

c.

anchor point or attachment point

Support with further examples related to environmental hazards, such as:

a.

wildlife

b.

ice-cover on blades, steps and platforms

c. effects of environmental conditions (e.g. sun-heated or frozen tools)

Lead a discussion on challenges related to handling equipment in extreme environmental conditions
