Facilitate a discussion where participants share the individual's responsibility for tethering and safe work practices in demanding situations
Lead a discussion on how to prevent injuries arising from dropped objects by staying out of the drop zone of workers at height
Assess and ensure that all participants carry out buddy checks each time PPE is worn and that all carried items are tethered
Provide feedback to the participants on their initiative and their buddy checking
The instructor must support and ensure that the participants apply principles for preventing dropped objects throughout the practical training, including buddy checks regarding tethering
Note
The participants shall:
Take part in the discussions and share their understanding on how to reduce the risks of dropped objects and maintain this awareness during the rest of the training exercises
Discuss in pairs or small groups and share experiences about identifying loose items that could potentially become a dropped object and share knowledge and experiences of dropped object incidents because of incorrect selection of transport methods and storage of tools, equipment, accessories, minor components, items, and parts at point of use
Discuss examples from company specific procedures of how to safely store and transport tools and components to ensure prevention of dropped objects
Discuss and conclude best practices in relation to mitigating dropping objects and for correct transport, storage and placement of tools, equipment, accessories, minor components, items, and parts and share these with the other participants
Share experience of work situations, where haste or other constraints did or could have led to poor work safety
Take part in the discussion about awareness of tethering and safe work in demanding situations, such as emergency procedures and drills, where tools and equipment may be hastily handled or misplaced
Take responsibility for staying out of the drop zone during the practical training and apply principles of dropped object prevention including correct tether selection and appropriate storage
