39) The participants can discuss work situations of repetitive work with hand tools and explain the risk of short- and long-term injuries from repetitive work with hand tools (Knowledge, intermediate level) 40) The participants can take initiative to mitigate the risk of musculoskeletal injuries by applying TILE principle, safe work procedures and aids when working with handheld tools (Ability, intermediate level) 41) The participants can take responsibility for actions to reduce exposure to vibrating handheld tools, such as job rotation and applying appropriate PPE (anti vibration gloves) (Ability, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Present and explain risks of short- and long-term injuries from:
a. undertaking repetitive manual handling tasks working with and without handheld tools Repetitive motion injury / Repetitive strain injury (RSI)
b. working with vibrating handheld tools (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)
c. working with heavy handheld tools (musculoskeletal injuries/Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD)
Facilitate a scenario-based exercise and a discussion covering how to mitigate the risk of the above- mentioned short- and long-term injuries (RSI, HAVS, MSD)
Observe the participant’s performance and provide constructive feedback throughout the participant’s practice with a focus on:
a.
using safe techniques and appropriate planning
b. reducing the risk of short- and long-term injury from repetitive manual handling, working with vibrating handheld tools and working with heavy handheld tools
c.
the use of manual handling principles
The participants shall:
Take active part in exercises and discussions focusing on how to mitigate short- and long-term injuries from; repetitive manual handling, working with vibrating handheld tools and working with heavy handheld tools
Apply TILE principle when planning the manual handling operation
Reflect on the received feedback to perform manual handling safely
