EXPOSITION AND PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS
v. 12. “Then spake Jesus again (Again therefore Jesus spake) unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that fol- loweth me, (omit , ) shall not walk in (add, the) darkness, but shall have the light of life.’’ Time and time again Jesus had spoken unto them the most evident and most marvellous truth, yet they would not hear. Still He did not give them up, “Again therefore Jesus spake unto them.” In the Greek the “again” is emphatic by its
position. We may well learn to be patient in our dealings with men from the patience of our Lord Jesus in' dealing with men. What He spoke at this time was one of the most precious utterances that ever fell from the lips of Him who spake “as never man spake.” First of all He declares, “I am the light o f the world.” Here we have another of our Lord’s “I ams,” and one that clearly indicates His Deity, for He says, “I am the light,” and in 1 John"1:5
