Dear Camp Families,

We are so excited to welcome you and your child to Summer Day Camp. Thank you for choosing to spend part of your summer with us. We cannot wait for all the fun, laughter, and memories ahead.

Our camp is built around creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where children can learn, grow, try new things, and most importantly, have fun. Our dedicated summer staff works hard to create a positive atmosphere where friendships are formed and interests are discovered. Campers can look forward to a wide variety of activities, including athletics, arts and crafts, nature exploration, team-building games, special events, and more. Our counselors and CITs are passionate about what they do and are committed to making each day meaningful and memorable. We are confident your child will head home each day with stories to share and a smile on their face. We understand the trust you place in us, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our staff are trained in First Aid and CPR and follows comprehensive safety procedures to help ensure every child’s well-being throughout the camp day. We encourage you to stay connected and involved in your child’s camp experience. If you ever have questions, concerns, or feedback, please reach out. Exciting New Summer Camp Additions!

This summer, full-day campers will visit Newtown Youth Academy (NYA) one day per week for structured turf games and court sports in their premium indoor facility. We are also expanding our culinary programming through the CT Grown for CT Kids Grant , giving campers hands-on cooking experiences with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

If you need to withdraw from a full week of camp for any reason, a full credit will be applied to your account for future use. If your child will be absent or is sick, please notify the Front Desk. There are no refunds for missed camp days. To reach the Camp Director during the day: Call: (203) 270-4349 Email: summercamp.ncc@newtown-ct.gov Attendance & Communication

Campers enjoy access to both the Newtown Community Center and the Fairfield Hills campus. Amenities may include: Pavilion Restroom facilities Playscape Basketball court Trails Open field space Indoor pool Newtown Youth Academy Camp is held rain or shine. Indoor spaces are used when the weather requires schedule adjustments. Drop-Off (9:00 AM) Drive-through system with one-way traffic flow Families must remain in their vehicles and follow staff directions Please drive slowly when entering the rear of the building Campers arriving after 9:15 AM must be signed in at the Front Desk Arrival Procedures

Extended Day Options

Extended Day options are available for families who need additional coverage. Only available to Newtown Community Center campers attending half-day morning sessions Cost: $60 per week (members and non-members) Extended Day runs until 6:00 PM Pre-registration is required Available for campers entering Grades K-6 (limited availability)

Before & After Care

Before and After Care is available for added convenience.

Before Care: 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM After Care: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Cost: $50 per week

Staff Ratios

Campers are divided into age-appropriate groups. Staff-to-camper ratio is 1:12 while on-site.

Dismissal Procedures

Pick-Up (4:00 PM) Full-day campers are picked up outside, across from the playground Half-day campers are picked up inside, at the front desk After Care pick-up is between 4:00 and 6:00 PM inside at the front desk Staff will radio for your camper; please allow several minutes for groups to transition A valid photo ID is required at dismissal at all times Early Pick-Up: Early pick-up must be completed at the Front Desk. Because campers rotate between activity areas (including hiking and swimming) , retrieval may take up to 15 minutes.

All camp groups are equipped with walkie-talkies, and staff are trained in Emergency Action Procedures. The Newtown Police Department frequently visits the campus during camp hours.

Camp Code of Conduct

Campers are expected to:

Show respect to peers and staff Follow program rules and staff directions Use appropriate language Respect facilities and equipment

Sunscreen Policy

We ask that families apply sunscreen to their child before arrival at camp. Camp staff will remind campers to reapply sunscreen throughout the day If your child needs assistance with sunscreen application, a completed waiver is required before the start of camp

Physical aggression or unsafe behavior will not be tolerated and may result in removal from camp. We strive to meet the needs of every child and will communicate with families if concerns arise. While we do not provide 1:1 support, we work collaboratively with parents to create a positive experience. The Community Center reserves the right to terminate enrollment if: A placement is deemed inappropriate for the child A mutually acceptable plan cannot be established Parent obligations are not met Physical or verbal abuse toward staff, campers, or families occurs Our goal is to ensure every camper enjoys a safe, positive, and memorable summer. Behavior Management & Support

Medication Administration

Medication is administered only under the following conditions: Must be in the original container Clearly labeled with the child’s name, dosage, and physician information Non-prescription medication requires a doctor’s note Inhalers should be properly labeled, and the counselors will hold on to them. All other medications are secured in a locked location and subject to administrative approval. Families must inform staff of any allergies, medical conditions, or EpiPen requirements before the start of camp For medication questions , please contact Maria at maria.neufeld@newtown-ct.gov .

Illness Please keep your child home if they are sick Parent/guardian will be contacted immediately if the child becomes ill Injuries Minor injuries are treated on-site and reported at pick-up For serious injuries, 911 will be called, and a staff member will accompany the child to the hospital

We encourage campers to stay hydrated throughout the summer months. Water refill stations and outdoor water access are available on campus Optional Camp Food Add-On: Families may pre- purchase a lunch option for $12 per week (Wednesday and Friday): Wednesday: Hot dog, fruit, and chips Friday: Two slices of pizza and fruit Additional snacks will be available for purchase for $1 each. We are a Nut-Free Camp . Please indicate all allergies on your child’s registration form and contact the Camp Director to discuss any necessary accommodations . Swimming & Water Activities

Safety is our top priority. All campers complete a swim assessment on the first day Non-swimmers must wear a life vest Aquatic staff may require life vests based on ability or height No formal swim lessons are provided Parents must indicate swim ability and life jacket needs on registration forms On Thursdays (Special Event Days) , campers participate in alternative water activities rather than pool swim.

What Not to Bring

Electronics (phones, tablets, gaming devices, etc.) Toys, trading cards, or personal items from home Sports equipment, unless requested by staff All belongings must go home daily. Our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program gives our oldest campers hands-on experience learning what it takes to be part of a successful camp team. CITs build leadership, responsibility, communication, and teamwork skills in a supportive environment.

While CITs are not responsible for camper safety or supervision, they are expected to demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and care each day. They assist with activities, participate in camp fun, and foster positive connections with younger campers.

CITs report directly to the CIT Coordinator, who mentors them through challenges and celebrates their growth. SPOTS ARE LIMITED, APPLY TODAY!

Lil’ Minnows

Consistency and frequency are key when learning to swim, and our four-day camp is the perfect way to refine swim skills and accelerate learning! This immersive experience provides a focused, intensive learning program condensed into four days. Beginner swimmers will focus on water safety and foundational swim skills. Campers will receive 45 minutes of swim instruction each day. Includes 30 minutes of free swim, along with engaging preschool-based activities.

A playful fusion of Disney magic and art. Students dive into painting with watercolors, acrylics, and pastels while drawing inspiration from beloved Disney films with Ms. Joy . We’ll explore photography and outdoor subjects as well. The week wraps with an optional student art show to share the creativity and celebrate each camper’s unique work. Expect a week packed with big, bold, messy creativity by Abrakadoodle . Each day features hands-on art experiments that get a little sticky, a lot colorful, and totally fun. Combine the wonder of nature with hands-on art and science. At the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary and Newtown Community Center, campers collect specimens, conduct simple experiments, and create drawings, paintings, and sculptures inspired by the natural world. After a morning of discovery, we head to the Community Center for a playful splash time in the pool. It’s a fun mix of exploration, creativity, and water play. A $10 membership fee for USA Triathlon is required for participation. Spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For full details and application information, please visit our website and click the Race 4 Chase tab. A kid-friendly, supportive path into the world of triathlon! Over six weeks, campers build skills in swimming, cycling, running, plus basic strength and flexibility training. We also introduce smart nutrition practices in a welcoming, non- competitive environment where effort and growth are celebrated. The season culminates in a USA Triathlon– sanctioned youth triathlon race, bringing the team together to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments. Enrollment is limited . Applications will be reviewed and selected based on first-time participation, demonstrated need, and a sincere commitment to completing the full six- week program .
