Founded 2013

Bildhalle, founded in Zurich by Mirjam Cavegn, represents outstanding artists in traditional and contemporary photography. Since its establishment, Bildhalle has quickly become one of the most respected photographic galleries in Switzerland, acting within the long- standing Swiss tradition of photography and its promotion as an artistic medium. In 2020, Bildhalle opened a gallery space in Amsterdam and a year later, sealed this bold leap by launching a second location in the Dutch capital, thus consolidating its strong position in the Netherlands and European markets. In Amsterdam, Bildhalle presents a well curated selection of Dutch and international artists. In the interplay between selected established photographers of the 20th century and those of a younger generation who are expanding the medium, Bildhalle’s ambitious gallery programme aims to exert a positive influence on the reception and recognition of artistic photography through solo and group exhibitions, participation in international art fairs and the publication of high- quality photobooks.

The Michael Hoppen Gallery was founded on a passion for photography. It is known for nurturing the careers of new and interesting artists and exhibiting them alongside acknowledged 19th, 20th and 21st-century photographic masters. In June 2021, after 29 years spaced over three floors in the heart of Chelsea, west London, it moved to an archive space in nearby Notting Hill. The breadth of the gallery’s collection is mirrored in the diversity of its collector base, ranging from public and private museums, corporate collections and experienced collectors to first-time buyers of photographic art. Michael Hoppen Gallery aims to present visitors with something unexpected that will broaden their perception of what photography can be, while providing the expertise to understand it. The gallery maintains a vigorous publishing programme. In 2007, it released Eyes of an Island in conjunction with a major exhibition of influential Japanese photography since 1945. Over the past 15 years, it has cemented its relationship with Japan and now has one of the most extensive collections of post-war Japanese photography outside Asia.
