ANCC FOUNDATION DID YOU KNOW?

Daniel’s Run Evolution Daniel’s Run was named for William O’Daniel, who in 1724 received a grant from Thomas, the Sixth Lord Fairfax, of 400 acres south of Accotink Creek and bisected by the current Blenheim Boulevard. The Run was originally a lazy, winding stream which flowed from its source at a spring near the current Fairfax City Hall to Accotink Creek. To learn more about Daniel’s Run, click here. ANCC Centennial Books We are pleased to report that our Centennial Commemorative book will be arriving in mid October and will soon be available for purchase! In addition to chapters recognizing Heroes We Have Known and our Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, the book offers a pictorial history of our property and the leaders who’ve helped shape the club. The book also celebrates our superb dining, golf, racquet and aquatics facilities while also paying tribute to our members and staff. An email with a link to pre-order books will be sent soon!

Do You Know the Clubhouse Rules of Attire?

As the summer season has officially begun at the Club, we’ve entered one of the busiest times here. When at the Club, members and guests are expected to adhere to the Rules of Attire as outlined in the Club Rules. We’re often asked what this means and with the Rules of Attire having recently been clarified/updated, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of some highlights relating to the Clubhouse rules of attire. As a general rule, you must always dress in a manner appropriate for a country club setting, and clothes must be clean, dry, and appropriately fitted. As a member, you are responsible for making sure that your family and guests follow the Rules of Attire as you enjoy the Club. If you see or experience an issue that requires attention, please inform our staff so they may address it appropriately, and if requested, please follow their instructions. Your failure, or the failure of your family or guests, to comply with the Rules of Attire will result in disciplinary action as outlined in the Organizational Manual. If you have a question about the Rules of Attire, please send an email to rulesofattire@ancc.org . A full copy of the Rules of Attire may be found on the Club’s website here or by scanning the QR code below:

Register for the golf tournament or the dinner through the tournament webpage by clicking here . Volunteers will be extremely important to the success of this tournament. We will need volunteers to help with registration, managing gift bags, driving drink carts, and setting up for the dinner among other tasks. Shifts will be 4 to 8 hours depending on how much time you have to share. We would like to have 15-20 volunteers to allow for shorter shifts. To sign up, notify us by email at YRF.volunteers24@gmail.com and let us know the best way to contact you and if there is a particular task you would like to do to support this tournament. Yellow Ribbon Fund is a nationally known veteran service organization that has provided critical support to more than 33,800 military families over the past 20 years. By holding this tournament each year at Army Navy, the Fund has raised more than $2.7 million. Please help the club support with this exceptional organization.

Yellow Ribbon Fund Wants You During Army Navy’s Centennial year, the club is pulling out the stops to make this year’s Yellow Ribbon Fund Golf Tournament the most successful in our 17 years of partnering with this worthy nonprofit that supports wounded veterans. The tournament will be on 28 October on the Arlington course and includes lunch and dinner. Army Navy members are asked to participate in a number of ways: by signing up for a foursome or other sponsorship levels, by attending the dinner on the evening of the tournament, or by volunteering your time. Spots are still available for foursomes and sponsors.

2024 Senior Stroke Play Championship

Congratulations to our 2024 Senior Stroke Play Champions, Scott Salmon in the Men’s Division, and Andi Carpenter, in the Women’s Division. In the Men’s Division, the championship came down to a playoff between Scott Salmon (Round 1 Leader), Kevin Dillard, and Pat Mullin, who both erased a 3 shot deficit to force the playoff. One the second playoff hole, Scott’s consistent play seemed to be the difference as he claimed the title. In the Women’s Division, Andi Carpenter had a 4 shot lead going into the final day, however Margaret Ann Connors wasn’t going down without a fight, birdieing White 4 at Arlington, to make it interesting coming down the stretch. Andi eventually held off the charge to win by a single shot, capturing her first ever Senior Stroke Play title. Congratulations to our Co-Champions in the Super Senior Division, David Knorr and Michael Lange, as well as our Legends Champion, Dennis Murphy. Full event results can be found by clicking here .

Under Coach Jimmy Kowalski, the 13U ANCC All-Star Team has established itself as a strong perennial contender in the Mid-Atlantic golf region. After battling it out in a tough Sectional Championship at Montgomery (MD) Country Club, the team earned a historic third straight trip to the PGA JR Regional Championship held in early September at the Maple Dale Country Club in Dover, Delaware. The two-day Regional tournament featured the top eight teams from the Mid-Atlantic region, Delaware, and New Jersey. At stake: A trip to the PGA JR National Championship in Frisco, Texas. After losing five veteran players from last year’s team, this year’s All-Star team was a mix of veterans and rookies: Charlie Wisniewski, Ryan Totte, Nate Miller, Conner Vaughn, Robbie Connor, Cate Mallon, Jake Collins, Colin Puffer, Dillon Parekh, Brooks Coffee, and Christopher Szymanski. Mason Dinh and Mitchell “The Big Bopper” Moore also contributed to the team in early season matches. Eight junior golfers participated in a two-person scramble format to kick off the event. The Day One pairings had Charlie and Cate first off the tees for ANCC, followed by Ryan and Colin, and Nate and Jake. Robbie and Connor were the final ANCC pair to tee off. The team finished the day with a 3-under par team total, —missing the fourth and final qualifying spot for the Match Play semi finals by only 4 shots. Despite falling short, the All-Stars rallied on Day Two as they competed in the Regional Shootout Championship against the remaining three teams. Coach Kowalski found some magic when he shuffled the pairings because the team finished with a collective team score of -11 and swept the top three spots. Nate and Connor shot a -5 to win the shootout; runners-up Charlie and Ryan were one shot behind at a -4; followed by Cate and Robbie who finished at -2. Coach Kowalski praised the team for its efforts at Regionals: “We had a lot of rookies playing in their first Regional Championship and we competed admirably. As these kids add length and experience we should be strong contenders for the Regional Championship next year. The future is bright!” The All-Star Team’s accomplishments were recognized at the Junior Golf Awards ceremony held September 29th, where trophies were also awarded for the PGA JR Spring Regular Season, the Junior Tour Championship, and the Parent-Child Scramble. The back-to-back-to-back PGA JR Regional appearances are a testament to the extraordinary job Coach Kowalski and all the golf professionals have done in developing the young golf talent here at ANCC through the PGA JR program, golf clinics, and individual lessons. With a strong foundation and the continued support of members, ANCC junior golf is not only on the map but shows the promise and potential to remain a powerhouse for years to come. ANCC All-Stars Make Third Straight Appearance at PGA JR Regional Championship
