Basic Technical Training Standard / V9 2024-06-24

The instructor shall:

Based on the scenario documents, facilitate activities where participants are required to conduct pre- checks, including completing related documentation. As a minimum, participants should:

a.

Setup the equipment

b.

Inspect the setup equipment prior to use

c.

Ensure safety handles are mounted for use

d.

Ensure that the tools have an approved calibration

e. Manage the work environment (tripping and slipping hazards)

f.

Checking pressure settings

g. Secure the socket to the tool using pins or o-rings (not cable ties)

h. Set the value with the gauge according to the calibration chart

i. Discuss how to apply the hierarchy of control: e.g. safest being hands free, then using handles, then 1 person then 2 person with specific controls, e.g. use of equipment like gripper sockets

j. Fill-out PDR and task documentation found in annex 2

Based on the scenario documents, facilitate activities where participants are required to correctly pressurise and depressurise hydraulic equipment according to the equipment manuals, including correct communication and body positioning in relation to equipment to avoid injury from failing components and hydraulic injection

Continuously assess participant engagement and learning by actively asking participants to share their understandings and reflect on their actions and considerations

Provide participants with instruction, guidance and feedback as required to ensure that learning objectives are met

The participants shall:

Complete the scenario-based activities to specification

Share understandings and considerations with instructors and other participants

Take responsibility for their learning by seeking guidance and clarification when in doubt
