GWO Advance Rescue Refresher Training / V5 02052025
Provide feedback to the participants on their presented conclusions and add further examples if appropriate
In a practical exercise, present participants with different hand tools and tether equipment, asking them to point out the following 3 points:
a.
tethering point (on the tool)
b.
tether
c.
anchor point or attachment point
Ask in-depth questions and facilitate a discussion about awareness of tethering and safe work in demanding situations, such as emergency procedures and drills, where tools and equipment may be hastily handled or misplaced
Facilitate a discussion where participants share the individual's responsibility for tethering and safe work practices in demanding situations
Support with further examples related to environmental hazards, such as:
a.
wildlife
b.
ice cover on blades, steps and platforms
c. effects of environmental conditions (e.g. sun-heated or frozen tools)
Lead a discussion on the mitigating actions and due diligence required when handling tools and items in adverse environmental conditions and during emergency situations
Present dropped object preventative actions where relevant, for example: buddy checks of tethering, toolbox talks, job safety analysis (JSA), take 5, DROPS sweeps and surveys, and proper housekeeping
Assess and ensure that all participants carry out buddy checks each time PPE is worn and that all carried items are tethered
Support the participants during practical activities and scenarios in this module to ensure that hand tools and other relevant objects are tethered before working at height, including information about when and how to tether
Provide feedback to the participants on their awareness and abilities to tether hand tools and other relevant objects when working at height and their initiative to carry out their buddy checks
The instructor must support and ensure that the participants apply principles for preventing dropped objects throughout the practical training, including buddy checks regarding tethering
