The instructor shall:
Explain the importance of warm-up as preparation for manual handling operations, including repetitive work, working in awkward positions and heavy lifting
Prompt the participants to share experiences about warm-up before manual handling operations
Lead a discussion on how to support a culture about warming up on work sites prior to physical work, including climbing
Lead a discussion on how to mitigate injuries from:
a.
excessive reaching distance
b.
working over shoulder height
c.
working while kneeling
d.
pushing and pulling loads
e.
carrying loads by following the TILE principle
f.
lifting loads
g.
twisting
h.
contact stress
i. working with handheld tools and addressing the potential:
i.i repetitive aspect (Repetitive motion injury and Repetitive strain injury (RSI)
i.ii vibrating aspect (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)
i.iii aspect of working with heavy handheld tools (musculoskeletal injuries and Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD)
j.
risks from working in awkward postures
k. work situations where two or more of the above mentioned are present
During remaining exercises, observe and provide immediate constructive feedback to the participants focusing on the following areas:
a. reducing manual handling using suitable handling aids where possible
b. ensure TILE principle is executed throughout each exercise
