Take part in a discussion and share experiences about hazards from adverse weather and environmental conditions and during emergency procedures and drills, where tools and equipment may be hastily handled or misplaced that may impact the use of hand tools Take active part in a discussion about mitigating actions and due diligence in relation to handling tools and items in adverse environmental conditions and during emergency procedures and drills, where tools and equipment may be hastily handled or misplaced.

During practical training scenarios and activities ensure that hand tools and other relevant objects are tethered before working at height

Receive the instructors feedback and adjust the tethering accordingly

ELEMENT 7.2 - RISK REDUCTION

Learning objectives:

55) The participants can explain how to reduce the risk of dropping objects (Knowledge, intermediate level)

56) The participants can show interest and have awareness of tethering and safe working practices in demanding situations such as emergency procedures and drills, where tools and equipment may be hastily handled or misplaced (Ability, basic level)

57) The participants can take responsibility for identifying loose items that could potentially become a dropped object (Ability, intermediate level)

58) The participants can take responsibility for securing tools, equipment, accessories, minor components, items, and parts through appropriate transport methods and adequate storage away from openings and exposed edges from which objects can fall, and in accordance with manufactures specifications and company specific procedures (Ability, intermediate level)

59) The participants can act independently to ensure that only approved tethering systems are used (compliance with local company specific standards (Ability, intermediate level)

60) The participants can take responsibility of performing buddy checks of tethering on colleagues prior to and during working at height (Ability, intermediate level)

The instructor shall:

Lead a discussion about the importance of ensuring and respecting drop zones, never work above another person, and never enter a defined drop zone

Lead a discussion about methods for mitigating the risk of dropped objects e.g.:
