WHY DO WE INVEST IN DNA AND GENOMIC TESTING? The simple answer is, we are able to offer more predictability and confidence in the genetics you are investing in. At a basic level, DNA provides confidence in the parentage of the calf. While we spend countless hours recording data, the reality of cow calf production proves us wrong at times. Whether it’s a pair of cows switching calves at birth or the wrong AI gun pulled from the sleeve, by DNA testing calves we are able to prove parentage and assure the bull you are buying is what his pedigree reads. Improved predictability and accuracy of Genomic Enhanced EPD’s is a huge advantage to you, the buyer, of a young bull. Purchasing a bull with Genomic Enhanced EPD’s is similar to buying a bull with 10 to 36 progeny depending on the trait. Thus, increasing accuracy of EPD’s earlier in life. As an example, GE-EPD’s for birth weight are the equivalent of a bull who has 23 progeny birth weights recorded. Our investment in Genomics is an investment in providing you with genetics that will succeed in your operation. Progeny Equivalents (PE)- Adapted from American Angus Association.

Welcome to the 11th Annual Zehnder Waage Partnership Production Sale. We are honored that you have taken the time to look through the offering. Trust me, if you choose to do business with the ZW brand you are dealing with high quality people that live to produce a product that works for you. It has been a pleasure to build a relationship with these families over the past decade, their dedication to agriculture and the beef business is second to none. I firmly believe that this is one of the most progressive and forward-thinking operations in the country. Collectively, they are educated in virtually every facet of the cattle business, and they use that knowledge to breed the kind of cattle that work from conception to the rail. In an effort to continually grow the program, and expand their ability to better serve their customers, they added an Angus division that is used to make Registered Angus and SimAngus cattle. That addition reinforces the key narrative for the program, that hybrid vigor is the most profitable breeding philosophy in the cattle industry. They believe that with a strong maternal base, and highly focused sire selection, you can maximize profitability in your operations. They not only want their genetics to help you build solid foundation to your cowherd, but they also want their bulls to help you access market premiums. With the cost of cow-calf production being at an all-time high, it has never been more important to invest in premium, no hassle genetics, that are backed by great people. If you have not done business with the guys at Zehnder Waage, I suggest you take the time to reach out to them and ask them about their program. They are some of the best people in the business and they are dedicated to their customers.

If the guys at Zehnder Waage, any of the sale staff, or myself can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

See you on sale day,

Colt Keffer CK Sales and Marketing, LLC.

Kay-R Frontier 815L, Sire of Lots 1-4

Denver has been very good to us over the years, and we were fortunate to capture Reserve Grand Pen of Three, in what was one of the most competitive events in recent years. This year’s lot 1 was the lead bull in that pen and one of the most talked about individuals in the history of our program. In terms of herd sire potential, we think he checks all the boxes. His power and performance are further bolstered by his look of quality and structural integrity. His EPD profile offers nine traits within the top one-third of the breed, with eight in the top 15%. Furthermore, his pedigree offers plenty of breeding flexibility, an attribute that is severely needed in the breed right now. Additionally, a maternal sister was selected by Wright Charolais as a bred heifer in a past National Charolais Sale. This bull has actual performance, phenotypic quality, advanced EPDs, and a proven cow family.

When we purchased Frontier from Kay-R Charolais in Canada, we had high hopes for his progeny. It is safe to say that he has exceeded every expectation, as two of his first sons made the trip to Denver. Lot 2 is another high performance, good numbered, eye appealing son, who should be on your herd sire list.

Another Frontier son that weighed over 800 lbs. at weaning. This bull is out of a Paradise sired dam, and that genetic line is proven to transmit performance. With WW & YW EPDs within the top 5% of the breed and a 103 YW Ratio, while maintaining below breed average birth weight, we are confident that this bull can produce calves that come easy and excel in growth all the way through the feedyard.

This bull stems from one of the most productive cow lines in the entire herd. The Twizzler cow family has been highly productive for multiple generations, with several daughters that are still working in the herd, including the mother of the Lot 1 bull. The dam of lot 4 has produced bulls that have sold to Jess Peterson, Baudette, MN and Anderson Cattle Co., Stewartville, MN.

The Flatland sire group has been extremely popular on both sides of the border. He stamps his progeny with growth, structural integrity, and a look of quality. The lead bull in this sire group exemplifies those traits and is a true herd sire prospect. Lot 5 was admired by many in Denver, as he offers the appropriate combination of performance, muscle dimension, and eye appeal. In terms of his EPD profile, he excels in growth and carcass without sacrificing critical maternal traits. His maternal granddam is also the dam of the powerful lot 1 bull and his dam was selected by Wright Charolais as our Pick of Bred Heifers in the National Sale.

Lot 6 is another Denver bull, sired by Flatland, out of an impressive Fargo daughter. This bull excels in his weaning and yearling growth traits, posting a 107 and 111 ratio, respectively. The industry is moving towards larger fed cattle that excel in red meat yield. If you’re in need of more punch and power in an attractive package, Reverend needs your consideration.

This bull comes with a more moderate frame and still offers ample growth. I feel that he is very complete in his type and kind with plenty of center body, and good feet and legs. His dam is sired by OW Lead Time, this sire group has been popular here over the past few years.

This Flatland son is clean made, smooth shouldered and well built. The Flatland sire group is very consistent overall. His progeny are all correct in their design, with ample muscle and rib.

Several maternal brothers have sold to progressive commercial cattlemen. Her most notable son, WDZ Aerosmith 1109, is the all-time high seller of the ZW Partnership bull sales.

These Jefferson sons are extremely unique. They will add value to any purebred or commercial operation. Lot 16 was featured in the Denver pen and caught the attention of many who saw him. This pair of full brothers will add consistency and quality. The lead bulls in the PVFC Platte sire group are both densely built, stout constructed, with length of spine, and a good look. In terms of their EPD profiles, they offer growth, carcass merit, and maternal strength. Keep this pair together if you want to add uniformity to your calf crop.

I have lot 22 marked as an ultra-complete, well balanced, deep sided individual. He offers well above average growth traits, note his 108 YWR. I believe that this bull can add frame and length, while still transmitting eye appeal to his progeny. His dam comes from the Twizzler cow family that has been so prominent in this operation.

Here is a big spread bull that is double digit calving ease, negative birth, and in the top 15% of the breed for both WW & YW. He is complete in his makeup with plenty of width and dimension. His dam has been a great producer over the years, with multiple bulls selling through the sale.

I have this bull highly marked. He is balanced across the board in terms of his EPD profile with 11 traits within the top 35% of the breed. From a phenotypic standpoint, he is a no-holes, clean made individual, with plenty of growth.

I think this bull could work in multiple scenarios. He is modest enough at birth to be a calving ease bull, but yet he still offers enough performance to serve as a good cow bull. His CE, BW, WW & YW EPDs all rank within the top 35% of the breed. As a bonus, he is in the top 30% of the breed for marbling.

Use this bull to add payweight to feeder cattle and yield to a set of fats. His dam has been a good producer, last year a maternal brother sold to Cletus Wiechman, Wagner, SD.

The leadoff son of longtime herd sire Tri-N Brooks is a special individual. Not only is he impressive in terms of his phenotypic characteristics, but he also excels on paper and in terms of performance. He weighed in at over 800 lbs. at weaning and almost 1500 lbs. at a year. This correlates to top 6% WW, 9% YW and 9% TSI EPDs. His dam is a highly productive cow that has had several bulls go through the sale.

This Brooks son offers excellent performance, alongside more calving ease. With a 78 lb. actual birthweight, he still grew to almost 800 lbs. at weaning to ratio 103. He is a long spined bull, with a shot more frame. A maternal brother sold to Tim Schroeder, Carrington, ND.

This is one of the more balanced bulls in the entire offering. Sired by the past sale feature, WDZ Great Divide 2071, lot 40 offers calving ease, growth, and carcass merit. He has a double digit CE EPD with a negative BW EPD, alongside a nearly 800 lb. weaning weight. To top all this off, he is in the top 2% of the breed for his marbling EPD. The dam of this bull has put several bulls through the sale, with sons selling to Vince Waldock, Little Falls, MN and Travis Black, McHenry, ND.

I have this bull marked very well. He is a growth bull that ranks within the top 25% of the breed for both his weaning and yearling EPDs. He reinforces these values with over 800 lbs. of weaning growth. His dam is a GHC Patriot daughter, those sons were very popular in past ZW sales.

In terms of phenotype, he is one of the most eye appealing and complete bulls in the offering. His dam is an excellent Warroad daughter, who is owned in partnership with Three Fires Cattle, La Cygne, KS.

Both of these Icon sons are out of first calf heifers. Lot 43 is a calving ease prospect with good carcass figures and over 750 lbs. of weaning growth. He is a picture bull for a reason. I like this bull. He is thick ended, big topped, and stout featured. His sire, WDZ Paradise 894, has sired very popular bulls over the years, simply because they add growth and muscle. This bull will do the same thing. He excels in his growth and carcass yield traits while still offering a look of quality. A maternal brother sold to Lovitt-Amos Charolais, Stapleton, NE.

Lot 45 is a calving ease prospect that still has growth. Ranking in the top 15% of the breed for both CE & BW EPDs, he still has over 750 lbs. of weaning growth and a WW EPD ranking him in the top 5% of the entire breed. This is a dual purpose bull that could work on heifers or cows.

Here is a powerful Paradise grandson that ratioed 116 at weaning. He is a performance bull that will add frame and length. The new buzz phrase is “Red Meat Yield”, we think this bull can add plenty of that.

Here is a herd sire prospect that offers both calving ease and growth. His sire, WDZ Chivas, was the high seller two years ago, going to Blanchette and Serhienko in Canada. He is extremely balanced across the board as he boasts 11 different traits within the top 25% of the breed. I marked him as a long spined, well built, good looking bull, with plenty of power.

This Chivas son is a stout built, good looking performance bull, out of a good Fargo daughter. Take notice of his growth figures that rank him in the top 5% WW, 4% YW, 5% CW, 2% REA & 7% TSI with below breed average BW. His dam has had several sons sell through the sale, including a purebred herd sire that sold to 5S Cattle, Lucien, OK.

I had high marks on lot 49. He is long spined, deep sided, and has a good look to him. He weighed in at over 750 lbs. at weaning and note his top 20% MARB EPD.

Another Bartlett son that I have marked well. I appreciated his length of body, keen head, and overall quality. In terms of his EPD profile, this is a big spread bull that offers both calving ease and growth.

Lot 51 is a growth bull that should attract some lookers. Over 800 lbs. at weaning and right at 1,500 lbs. at a year, 104 and 113 ratios respectively. A maternal brother sold to Mark Prosser in the 2024 sale.

This is a potential calving ease prospect out of the proven heifer bull, WDZ Warroad. He is also well above average for growth and in the top 25% for MARB. His dam is a first calf heifer, who is a full sister to WDZ Aerosmith.

The next few bulls are sired by WDZ Hennessy 3078, a home raised bull sired by the popular OW Lead Time. Good calving figures on this long spined, well-built individual. Note his top 10% REA EPD.

A good growth bull by Hennessy and out of a WDZ Titan daughter. Almost 800 lbs. at weaning and over 1,400 lbs. at a year. We feel that he has the ability to produce excellent feeder cattle.

A high performance individual, sired by WR Badge Z610 L4600. That is a Badge son, by the Z610 donor, who has been a great producer over the years. We used L4600 on our heifers last year with great success. This bull ranks with the best of them in terms of weaning growth and carcass yield EPDs. Make note of his top 25% TSI.

Lot 56 is a calving ease prospect out of a first calf heifer. He is long spined, deep ribbed, and has plenty of growth to him. If you retain ownership in your cattle, make sure to check him out as he boasts a top 8% MARB EPD.
