One of the USAF advisors, Senior Airman Sebastian DeMarco, had his right arm in a sling and clearly had more injuries based on how he limped around but tried to play it tough, while the other, Senior Airman Aleksandr Korbachenko, had awful gashes to his cheeks and head, suf- fering often from dizzy spells and occasional vomiting, not to mention the bruises and other contusions. Again, their lone medic and local nuns, acting as nurses, did the best they could to patch them up, but with the heat and lack of supplies Corky shuddered to think how long that would survive with so many insects and the diseases they carried. Corky’s Pelikaan remnants were isolated near the last working airstrip that the CAF had, which was on one of the smaller islands of the archi- pelago but close to the last mine at Tanga. And that was really why he was here, the precious iphonium that President Smith so eloquently told them weeks ago it was in the interests of the country to maintain. This intervention was meant to be humanitarian, but once the rebels killed Americans, Smith had upped the ante. Scene #10 – 50 nm SE of Cordova in international waters [Saturday] The initial relief force consisted of two vessels, the US Navy’s USS Cleve- land (LCS-31), leading the Kobayashi Maru, a high-speed bulk carrier outfitted as a fast transport. Another 40 or so nm behind them, the HMAS Centaur (an Australian offshore patrol vessel) and an Indonesian offshore patrol craft escorted two Indonesian fast transports with relief supplies as part of President Smith’s attempt at a multilateral effort to evacuate the Cordovan government and military that remained under the guise of a humanitarian convoy. Kontrol knew about the coming relief force — after all, it was broadcast all over international media that President Smith was taking action — so it was quite easy to find and track them as they approached the region. Brody got the text which woke him up and sent him into action; he was surprised to hear he had been promoted to mission lead, callsign RAID- ER-1.
