Egypt was a two thousand- year-old established country when King Tutankhamun (King Tut) was born around 1341 B.C.E. Tut lived during the New King- dom rule of the chronological eighteenth dynasty, 1540 – 1307 B.C.E. He was a young ruler who came into power when he was ten years old, and who ruled with the help of others, until he died around the age of nineteen. It was customary to bury the pharaohs with a funerary mask, which was made to resemble their actual likeness. Therefore, the customary funerary masks were placed on the deceased pharaoh in order for the Gods in the next life to recognize them. In addition, the soul of

the deceased would be able to return to the mummified body due to recognition of the face depicted by the funerary mask. Further- more, the masks were made of Egyptian gold and were made for both males and females. Moreover, Pharaohs generally had masks that were very ornate which were made not only of the finest gold but also of precious and semi-precious stones.
