MANUFACTURER – KANE ENGINEERING LTD
KANE ENGINEERING’S AWARD-WINNING EVOPILLAR® FEEDER PILLAR RANGE FOR EV CHARGING HAS BEEN ADOPTED ACROSS NATIONAL TRUST SITES AND LARGE EV CHARGING PROJECTS FOR BUS OPERATORS… Growth continues for leading NI switchgear manufacturer
An award-winning product range is driving expansion into key growth sectors across the UK and Ireland for Northern Ireland’s longest-established switchgear manufacturer, Kane Engineering Ltd. Founded in 1971, the Newtownards- based manufacturer has evolved into a major switchgear provider in emerging sectors such as renewable energy and EV charging infrastructure, with a multi- million-pound turnover and a team of 40 staff members. A leading brand in the sector, Kane Engineering’s EvoPillar® outdoor feeder pillar range for EV charging was recognised with the Manufacturing Innovation Award at both the Made in Northern Ireland and Made in the UK awards in 2023. EvoPillar® is making substantial inroads in markets across the UK, including a roll out across 100-plus National Trust sites and large EV charging projects for bus operators in Edinburgh, Leeds and Portsmouth. Kane Engineering drew on its expertise to develop the innovative range, which is available up to 3,200amps and is focused on quality, electrical safety, ease of installation and space saving. With more than 50 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of low-voltage electrical switchgear, Kane’s product range also includes cubicle pattern and fully-welded LV switchboards up to 4000amps, power factor correction equipment, and LV panelboards. The company supplies industrial and commercial customers throughout the UK and Ireland, spanning the public sector as well as datacentres and telecoms, industrial and utilities, renewables and green energy, transport and aerospace, tourism and leisure, and food and agriculture. Boasting a reputation for uncompromising product design and
build quality, the manufacturer’s ongoing programme of investment extends from 3D CAD technology on the design side to the installation of state-of-the-art CNC machines for the automated cutting, punching, and bending of copper busbar, allowing it to take on even the largest switchgear projects competitively. Innovation has always been a hallmark of the business as the original distributor of French switchgear brand Merlin Gerin (now Schneider) in the 1970s. In the 1990s, it adopted a total quality management approach to business, as well as establishing a long-running partnership with Danish manufacturer Cubic for supply of its modular steelwork and busbar systems and becoming Cubic’s first accredited system builder in Ireland. Damien Kane, Company director, said, “Continual investment in our people and the latest manufacturing technology has kept us at the forefront in a competitive market sector. Today, we have loyal customers who seek us out by name. They don’t just settle for any LV
switchboard for their projects, they ask for a ‘Kane panel’ and that’s something that everyone in Kane Engineering can be very proud of.”
