Students Create Packaging For All Five Senses What makes a packaging concept not only func- tional and visually appealing, but also able to interact with senses when it comes to sound, touch, taste, or smell? That’s the challenge for this year’s design stu- dents in BillerudKorsnäs’ Packaging Impact Design Award, PIDA. This year’s event is the 16th event since the start of the competition back in 2005.This year the competi- tion is expanding geographically by including design schools in the USA in the competition.During May and June, BillerudKorsnäs will host the competition at four events: Sweden, France, Germany, and a joint event for the UK and the United States. In September, an inter- national winner will be selected in a Grand Finale at Luxe Pack Monaco. “Packaging that speaks to our senses is a fast-de- veloping trend. In the future, we can expect packag- ing concepts with sound effects, visual illusions and augmented reality. In an increasingly digital world, the packaging needs to stand out and in the interac- tion with consumers speak to all their senses,” said Anders Gathu, Marketing Manager Cartonboard at BillerudKorsnäs. Resource Label Acquires Cypress MultiGraphics Resource Label Group, Franklin,Tennessee, a full-ser- vice provider of pressure sensitive label, shrink sleeve and RFID/NFC technology for the packaging industry, has acquired Cypress MultiGraphics and its two loca- tions in Tinley Park, Illinois, and Brooklyn Center, Min- nesota. Resource Label is a portfolio company of First Atlantic Capital, a private investment firm, and TPG Growth, the middle market and growth equity invest- ment platform of TPG. Cypress MultiGraphics was originally founded in 1970 specializing in production of durable labels. Cypress MultiGraphics serves the Lawn & Garden,HVAC, Power Tools,Medical Equipment andAppliances industries. Constantia Flexibles Acquires Propak In Turkey Constantia Flexibles signed an agreement to acquire the packaging producer Propak located in Dücze,Tur- key. Propak is a player in the European packaging in- dustry for the snacks market, and operated out of one plant with approximately 360 employees. The transaction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2021, pending regulatory approvals.
