Supporter Magazine: Spring 2017

JOURNEY TOEMPLOYMENT

O ur Transition to Work team recently held a lunch to celebrate all of the program’s achievements over the past 12 months. Transition to Work is a program based in Southern Adelaide which supports young people aged 15-21 on their journey to employment. The team currently has about 250 young people on the books, and there was a fantastic turn out on the day with around 40 young people coming along to celebrate. The young people participated in team building activities and heard from a range of guest speakers who spoke

on topics such as the importance of work ethic, what employers look for in an interview, and overcoming obstacles in life. It was great to see the young people, who hadn’t met previously, having fun and working together effectively in teams. We look forward to seeing what they achieve over the next 12 months.

WINTERWARMTH

W e are very fortunate to receive support from many businesses around Adelaide towards our Winter Appeal. This winter, the team at Blackwell Funerals organised a huge blanket collection for South Australians in need. In an attempt to keep up with demand, they dropped blankets to AnglicareSA’s Magdalene Centre in the CBD on a few occasions throughout winter, before handing the remainder over to Karen Stott, Manager of the Magdalene Centre, to distribute as needed. Karen said "at this time of year, the blankets fly off the shelves, not only for people sleeping rough, but for families struggling with the cost of electricity". Thank you Blackwell Funerals.
