skills, such as software development, business and systems analysis, and network infrastructure. The digital & technology solutions degree apprenticeship is now widely available, with universities across the UK offering the programme.

A third of the employers appearing in The Sixth Formers’ Guide to Degree Apprenticeships are recruiting for the apprenticeship in 2025. Capgemini is one of the world’s largest consulting, technology and outsourcing companies, and was

studying and doing the job has gone OK so far. As long as you can stay on top of things and stay organised, it should all be manageable. My team at work have been very accommodating when I need to take extra time to complete things for university, it’s great to have that flexibility. But now that I’m into the second year of the apprenticeship, it will be ramping up in difficulty and the amount of time I’ll have to commit to it. We have two days each week to work from home, one of which is our study day, and then three days in the office. For me, it’s a good combination because working from home for too long can sometimes be a bit boring. One of the biggest advantages of doing the degree apprenticeship is that all the training and tuition is paid for by JPMorganChase, and we’re paid a salary throughout our apprenticeship too. I was keen to do my apprenticeship in London so I could continue living at home. It means I can help out with my little brother and take care of him sometimes when my Mum goes to work. And it means I don’t have to worry about paying rent, which makes a big difference financially. When my apprenticeship ends and I successfully complete my degree, I’ll roll off the programme and be promoted into an associate role in the team I’m working in. It’s great to know there’s a guaranteed job with JPMorganChase for me after my apprenticeship. They make it very easy to progress. ”

I’ve always been interested in tech and programming. Some of my earliest memories are when something was broken in the house, like the broadband or the TV, I was the person my family would ask to fix it. When I was 14, I joined a new makerspace called DigiLab at my local library in Barking, London. They taught people how to program and I started going along to hackathons (coding challenges for computer programmers) there. We were working on Arduinos & Raspberry Pi kit computers, it was a great space to explore different tech. When I went into sixth form, I chose maths, further maths and computer science for A-levels and I was adamant that I wanted to go to a good university, like Imperial College or King’s College London, so that I could study for a computer science degree. But then I heard about degree apprenticeships while I was doing a work experience course and realised they could be viable option for me after sixth form. In year 13, I did go through the UCAS process but I ended up taking a gap year instead – and that was when I applied to around 15 different companies for their degree apprenticeships. I got offers from three and it was the technology degree apprenticeship programme at JPMorganChase that I accepted. It’s a four-year course and I’m in the equities data analytics team, in the bank’s London offices. Since I started a year ago, I’ve been working on automating different processes within the

bank, doing cataloguing, and helping to migrate data to the cloud. I’ve been able to get involved with several different projects, so there’s been plenty of variety and experiences. It helped that I’d done lots of coding before I started the apprenticeship, but there’s lots I’ve had to learn, like testing your code in the correct way and writing test cases. The degree part of the apprenticeship is the computer science and software engineering course at the University of Exeter. It’s blended learning, so it’s mostly online workshops, lectures and e-learning, but all the technology apprentices spend a week together in Exeter each September and January. I’ve found the balance between
