The theoretical definition for Juneteenth says, “a holiday celebrated on 19 June to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US.” What this means is that it is made to celebrate all of the accomplishments and sacrifices our ancestors have made to become free. Maya Angelou is a famous Black poet who has inspired me in many ways, such as helping me to know my worth as a young Bl ack female and always push through my full potential. And to know that even with some failures it’s ok and to get back up and try again. This is why I believe that I should tell my story about how she impacted me so, therefore, she could help others. We are Black Women.

Kamille is a 3rd year UE student. She enjoys playing Lacrosse and will be entering college in the fall.
