They take the initiative. To build a robust, sustainable business, a Marketing Executive must learn to carefully manage their own time and organize their daily efforts around engaging in the Seven Critical Business- Building Activities. This is another area where pastors have a natural advantage. “As pastors, we generally are responsible for organizing our own time,” Erich says. “We’ve learned to be self- managers. That sets us apart frommany who work in corporate settings where someone else may manage the bulk of their time and workload.”

And that friendship isn’t a one-way relationship. Just like pastors, the most effective Marketing Executives listen more than they teach. They take the opportunity to learn from everyone they meet—and they’re ready to share how Melaleuca has given them solutions even as they learn how they can help the person sitting next to them. “If you’re building your Melaleuca business the right way, you’re developing a lot of genuine personal relationships with people,” Paul Hardin says. “We’re part of Corporate Director 3 John Dufner’s organization. John teaches that it’s always about the individual. We believe in building our business one individual at a time as we become aware of the needs of that person and what Melaleuca could do for them.”

Pastors devote countless hours to getting to know the people they meet on an individual basis, building relationships of trust with them, learning their needs, mentoring them, and teaching them to improve themselves and enrich their lives through communion with the divine. Here are some strengths pastors have— and parallels they’ll recognize as you introduce them to Melaleuca.

They recognize ways to sustain their work. The pastors and clergy of many

congregations can’t rely on their church income alone to accomplish everything they would like to accomplish. Often they have additional avenues of income, whether it’s a side business or the job their spouse has. Building a Melaleuca income is an attractive and viable way to supplement their primary incomes. Erich recalls his first parish as a pastor. “We couldn’t really raise our family on the income our parish provided,” he says. “We were asking, ‘What are we going to do?’ Around that time, my mother introduced us to Melaleuca. We worked hard to build our Melaleuca business, and our Melaleuca income eventually grew large enough to help me complete my schooling and return to the ministry in another parish.” “Many pastors face financial challenges that decrease their ability to realize their missions,” Gabriel says. “Building a Melaleuca business can give a pastor a way to expand their mission.”

They look well beyond the present.

Working with people, especially when the end result won’t be quantifiable, takes a good deal of faith. “Pastors work hard to achieve goals beyond their own needs,” Erich Fickel says. “They put in effort for which they don’t necessarily see the results right away.” Trusting that their work will eventually bring results is an essential characteristic of successful Melaleuca Marketing Executives. They may help a new business partner earn an early win—but they do that to build their partner’s belief and confidence for the road ahead. The strong, steady results that this new business builder and their support team have envisioned will come only through consistent daily action, a desire to help others improve their lives, and a no-matter-what attitude.

Pastors build relationships of trust.

Pastors, ministers, and clergy members do the vast majority of their work on a personal level with members of their congregations. They understand that accomplishing great things starts with helping individuals succeed, one by one. “As pastors, we are to minister to God’s people and be the hands and feet of Jesus to the world,” Gabriel McDaniel says. “Enhancing the lives of those we touch by helping people reach their goals—that is marketplace ministry to us. It means seeing to the natural needs of people so they have the vitality to fulfill their purpose to the fullest.” Understanding someone’s needs means making friends with them first.
