man of her heart. So it must be in sal vation. Believing in Christ Jesus means that we fall in love with Him, we seek Him personally, we receive Him fully, we worship Him devotedly, we accept Him without reservation and give our whole person to His' care and to His service. He becomes the focal point in our soul’s affections. His Word becomes our law; His will becomes our rule. January 22, 1950 I Believe in the Holy Spirit John 14:16,17,26; Acts 1:7,8; 2:1-4 The Spirit of God is a real Person. He is to be approached as a Person. He is not to be treated as a wind or a Are or an impulse or an inAuence or a power. He is not to be thought of as some mys terious, strange, peculiar, intangible something but rather as a lovely indi vidual Person, with faculties of which ours are but a feeble representation. We Believe in the Equality of the Holy Spirit in the Godhead Matt. 28:19 The name of the Holy Spirit is men tioned with the Father and the Son in many passages. Whether it be in baptism or in consecration or in devotion or in service, these three are mentioned to gether but never in the same order. Sometimes the Father is Arst, sometimes the Lord Jesus is Arst, and sometimes the Holy Spirit is Arst. In some cases each one of them is mentioned last and in other cases each one is mentioned sec ond. One is not below nor above the other in power nor in love. We Believe the Holy Spirit Convicts of Sin John 16:8 Conviction of sin does not come from earthquakes or Ares or storms or acci dents or tragedies. Conviction of sin against God comes only from the Holy Spirit who alone reveals the terrible gulf that is between the lost soul and the living God. He does it by the Word of God. Men often mistake the cry of dis tressed nature for the cry of sin-sickness. Men may be convicted of the evil results of liquor without being convicted of sin against a holy God. This conviction is essential if there is to be salvation. We Believe That the Holy Spirit Is Our Teacher John 14:26 The One who wrote the Bible is best able to explain it. The One who plans our lives is most proAcient in analyzing life’s problems. God the Father and the Lord Jesus have appointed the Holy Spirit to teach the children of God the truths of the Scriptures and the mys teries of life. He alone can teach us how to live and how to die, how to serve, and how to deal with others. He alone is able to expound the mysteries of prophecy and explain the meaning of the Word. He only can teach us the lessons to be learned from experience. D E C E M B E R , 1949
