A CALIi TO WATCHFULNESS (Matt. 25:13.) 1.

To walk with Him, who is the Light, is to be kept right. 7. SEQUENCE. “If any man Serve Me, let him follow Me” (John 12:26). To serve faithfully we need to follow Christ fully. 8. HONOR. “If any man serve Me, him will My Father honor” (John 12: 26). When we honor the Lord with true service, the Father honors with true appreciation. 9. JUDGMENT. “If any man hear My words and believe not , '. . the Word . . . shall judge him” (John 12: 47). Hearing means responsibility. ■ B B E. M. THE WRITTEN WORD Joshua 1:7, 8 Joshua was put in dependence upon the written Word. He was to-—, 1. “Observe” , to do according to it (v. 7). 2. Cling to it uncompromisingly (v. 7). 3. Teach it and testify it (v. 8). So then, Joshua was to make the Written Word his rule of life, the source of his meditation and the sub ject-matter of his testimony. Thus he was to meet with success and prosper ity. Apart from meditation on the Word of God and obedience to it, growth, enjoyment and spiritual success are impossible. The Word of God is to be the Chris tian’s daily food, as well as his con stant rule of life. In other words, he is to “desire the sincere milk of the Word” (1 Peter 2:2) and to “walk in truth” (3 John 1:4; 2 John 1 :4 ). The Bible, is the written Word of God, given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Tim. 3 :16 ). Therefore, we should— . Recognize its Divine authority and bow to it. Own its glorious supremacy and rejoice in it. Confess its blessed sufficiency and, meditate in it. Cling to its holy integrity and tes tify to it, Cherish its precious promises and feed on it. Believe its every fact and give heed to it. Know its blessed .truth and walk in the light of it. Expect the fulfillment of its every prophecy and have hope through it. Remember its solemn warnings and learn to fear God through it. Think of its glorious power and live by it. We should apply the Word of God to every interest in life, whether per sonal, social, commercial, domestic,, civil or religious. —W. S. H. 4. “Meditate!’ in it (v. 8). 5. Heed all of it (v. 8).

“A CERTAIN MAN” The Scriptures do not leave us in the fog of uncertainty, but specify in given particulars. 1. A LAME MAN. “A certain man lame” (Acts 3 :2 ). The Lord knows our individual lameness, and He alone can deliver us from it. 2. A BEWITCHING MAN. “A Cer tain man called Simon” (Acts 8 :9 ). To be a curse to others is to curse one’s self. 3. A SICK MAN. “A certain man named .¿Eneas , . . sick” (Acts 9:33), To be a helpless invalid is to be a bur den to others. What a lot of sick folk there are in the churches! 4. A -“DEVOUT” MAN. “A certain man called Cornelius” (Acts 10:1). He was true to the light he had, and found that led him to more. 5. AN “IMPOTENT” MAN. “A Cer tain man . . . impotent” ; (Acts 14:8). Incapacity to walk is an illustration of those who have life, but not liberty. 6. AN OPPOSING MAN. “A certain man named Demetrius” (Acts 19:24- 29). When the Word of God touches our selfish interests, it stirs up oppo sition. 7. A BOUND MAN. “A certain man in bonds” (Acts 25:14). Blessing from the Lord sometimes leads to bonds from the world.
