Performance Registry International and the Certified Meat Sires Emulous Bob of K Pride
Prior to the Angus AHIR program or the performance program of any breed organization – there was a movement within the cattle industry to measure and record the performance of bulls and cows, and the performance of their progeny. The goal was to officially & accurately record the performance and production of beef cattle, with the goal of analyzing that data and promoting the improvement of beef cattle through the use of breeding stock with proven high gaining ability. By1958, the organization designed to do this was known as PERFORMANCE REGISTRY INTERNATIONAL (PRI). The Certified Meat Sire (CMS) program was established by PRI in 1962 and the program required that at least 10 or more progeny of a sire be required to complete a carcass evaluation and fulfill the requirements outlined by PRI. Those requirements set out appropriate carcass standards that must be met or exceeded for a bull to earn the title of CMS.
• Emulous Bob of K Pride (AAA 3336024), both maternal great grandsire and paternal great, great grandsire of Tail N Emulous 1674, became the Angus breed’s first 100% CMS. Individually, he was the world record-gaining bull in 1962 with an ADG of 4.29 pounds per day on a 104-day test. Later, he became the only 100% CMS bull of any breed to sire a 100% CMS bull that later sired a 3rd-generation 100% CMS bull. Emulous Bob of K Pride sired 9 sons who earned the CMS title, 17 CMS grandsons, and 17 CMS great-grandsons. Ideal 1925 Emulous is a son of Tail N Emulous 1674. Tail N Emulous 1674 has a pedigree rich in Certified Meat Sires; both of his grandsires were Certified Meat Sires, Emulous Pride 127 (200% CMS) and Emulous Pride 135 (100% Golden CMS), and he totals over 100 insertions of Certified Meat Sires in his extended pedigree.
