2023 Wrap-Up What Lies Ahead for 2024
After a great 2023, I thought it might be a good time to talk about our plans for 2024. I’m sure there will be twists and turns along the way, but our goal is to be the best at what we do. We help to keep our communities safe, play a critical role in construction projects, and help our customers keep their buildings and systems functioning. Being the best involves more than just growing over the prior year or beating the budget. As I mentioned on our last quarterly call, we did both of those things in 2023, but many of our competitors performed even better. We lost bids twice as often as won them and our EBITDA margin - a measure of how much value customers place on our services and how well we perform - was 30-50% less than many similar companies in our industry. You may be thinking - if we had such a good year, when is it enough? That’s a fair question to ask, and it definitely took a huge effort from everyone to achieve the results we did. Finding qualified team members has been our single biggest challenge, which is why we quintupled the bonus for referrals! However, there are many reasons for us to continue our efforts to grow. I’ll talk about the role of acquisitions in the next issue, but getting bigger is not just an end in itself. It helps us to fund annual raises, enables us to negotiate better healthcare rates, gives us the latitude to provide corporate services such as Training, and the list goes on. Most of our success in getting better will come from a continued focus on the small things we do every day. Negotiating with vendors to get an extra point or two of margin and making sure our field installers have the right products to get the job done in a timely fashion are just a couple of examples. However, there are three key strategic initiatives that we are going to focus on this year: • Enterprise Accounts is the next evolution of our national account strategy. While in the past we focused on identifying customers with a national footprint to provide primarily D8 products, we now have an entire business development team focused on specific verticals and we are emphasizing the
sale of our full suite of products. This will require the support of our entire branch network as we leverage our unmatched in-house expertise and geographic coverage. It should also be a good source of new business for all of our locations. • Sales Effectiveness is a broad term that essentially means using data to improve our win rate. While we have introduced some tools over the past couple of years, this is no longer optional with our new owners. They require us to provide this information regularly. You’ll see more news about training and feedback opportunities to make sure we are not creating extra work, but this is meant to help you make smarter decisions every day and benefit from the full breadth of opportunities that exist throughout our network of branches. • Pre-Hung is meant to address an end market (multi-family) where we have historically been under-represented. Now that we have in-house experience in manufacturing these products, we should be able to overcome the past limitations that resulted from unreliable vendors. We are investing in more manufacturing capacity to make sure we can service all of our locations and increase our presence in this space. I hope this helps you understand our key goals and initiatives for 2024. These ideas originally came from discussions with many of you, and I appreciate all the input. As you know, we’ve launched our new Elevate program on Connect for other ideas you may have. This is a team effort and everyone must understand what we are trying to accomplish. I encourage you to ask about our strategy when I’m in your branch or feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions.

Why Policies Matter If work-related security concepts were given a slogan, it would probably be “always follow policy.” In fact, you’ve probably encountered that statement many times, and for good reason. Policies are created to keep data, systems, and people safe. :LWKRXWFOHDUO\GHȴQHGSROLFLHVRUJDQL]DWLRQVZRXOGVWUXJJOHWRPDLQWDLQVHFXULW\7KH\ZRXOGDOVRVWUXJJOHWR DGKHUHWRFRPSOLDQFHUHJXODWLRQVȃWKHODZVWKDWHVWDEOLVKUHTXLUHPHQWVIRUGDWDSULYDF\2UJDQL]DWLRQDOSROLFLHV often align with those requirements to ensure rights are not violated. With that in mind, let’s explore a few examples of common policies and why they exist.

Don’t get caught out by a cybercriminal. Avoid getting phished by looking out for these warning signs:
• Inspect the subject line, time of the request, and content. If a message is enticing, was sent at an unusual time, contains content unrelated to the subject, or puts you under pressure to act, it may be dangerous. • Think about the origin of the message. Confirm the request with the relevant person or institution you know via a verified contact method, like a phone call. • Links and attachments are the easiest way for cybercriminals to send malicious software. By not clicking, you foil their attempts.
Trust your intuition. Stop and think. Take a breather before reacting or giving in to the request, and report any messages that do not seem legitimate.

Grocery Chain Threat Monitoring With Axis Cameras and Auror Cloud
Grocery chains want every partner, customer, and vendor to feel that the time they spend at a grocery facility is the safest part of their day - and this experience begins the moment they enter the parking lot. As a result, grocery chains have consistently taken a proactive measure to improve the safety and security of their parking lots. However, multiple stores have reported recent increases in parking lot criminal activities like purse snatchings, muggings, vehicle break-ins, and drug dealings. A current customer of 3Sixty Integrated is actively using a software called Auror which has been a game changer since implementation. The software allows partners at the store level to document incidents and create a history log of what is happening around the company. This collective data is helping this grocery chain understand and think about shrinkage at a level that was not possible in the past. We have discussed adding cameras for license plate recognition (LPR) to provide store partners with an alert that a known threat has arrived onsite. This would provide awareness and time to monitor the threat as they approach and enter the store. Using the Auror software, the partner will know what past incidents have occurred and understand the threat level before engagement. 3Sixty has consulted with this grocery chain, Axis, and Auror to get a better understanding of the integration and how to make this solution a reality. The integration as described is a direct line of communication from the Axis camera to the Auror cloud. The Auror integration is independent of the Genetec Omnicast software. This integration occurs directly between Axis and the Auror cloud. The
LPR application resides within the Axis camera and communicates directly to the Auror cloud when a license plate is captured for verification. The camera can be recorded to Genetec via a second stream, but may not provide much value for the Grocery Chain as the camera will be focused and dialed in on the license plate. As an event occurs such as shrink, for example, the store partners are creating incidents and loading them into the Auror software. Typically, they are loading a picture of the individual, the vehicle, and a license plate, if available. As they are loaded into the system, they create an automatic hotlist that can be used store-wide. Using the Auror software in conjunction with the Axis LPR camera, the store partners can now receive alerts for repeat offenders. At this point, they would be able to assess the threat and know how to safely respond to it by reviewing the offenses they are provided within the Auror software. The Auror software will be configured to filter out events that will create noise for the store partners receiving the alerts. We have discussed setting a threshold of $500 worth of loss per individual to enable the creation of an alert. Using a threshold of $500, for example, eliminates the need to manually update hotlists and saves costly labor hours needed to ensure accuracy.

During our Health & Wellness Employee Survey, one recurring response was concerning doctors leaving the Cigna network. Unfortunately, this is not something Cigna alone faces. Hospitals and other providers always go through contract negotiations and an agreement is made before any patients become aware. This happens with all major insurance companies. Be advised, Cigna is continuing to negotiate rates with providers to bring more options back into their network. Unfortunately, another trend is that in-network mental health providers are becoming harder to find. Both Cigna and MyGroup (our EAP provider) are working behind the scenes to be sure accredited and licensed therapists are available to participants. To address these issues, our medical plan’s participants have access to MDLIVE. Unlike others, MDLIVE offers more than just “urgent care” visits. Under this benefit, you can see a primary care physician for preventive checkups as well as sick visits - on-demand - and 24/7/365! MDLIVE also offers Behavioral Health Care with access to psychiatrists and therapists, for talk therapy or psychiatry appointments. You can schedule the same provider for each session within Cigna’s network at no cost to you, with no copay or deductible to be met! For more information, please visit our Benefits Microsite and choose “Telemedicine” from the Health & Wellness dropdown: https://cookandboardman.myben.site/ If you are not on our medical plan, you can still receive 8 free counseling visits from a provider (in person or virtual) through our EAP. While network issues have been a concern, MyGroup has recently partnered with Better Help to provide virtual visits. For more information regarding this benefit, please contact MyGroup at 800.633.3353.

Bradley
Products that Elevate
Bradley’s story begins 100-plus years ago with an unusual invention that was meant to save time for factory workers. That newfangled idea – the iconic Washfountain – ended up forever changing the way people wash
their hands and giving birth to a company that would create hundreds of innovative products that solve customer pain points for years to come. In 1917, wasted work time was a major pain point for Harry Bradley, owner of Allen-Bradley Corp., a Milwaukee-based manufacturing company. He noticed his factory workers spent too much valuable time waiting in line to wash their hands during breaks. He developed the concept of “group handwashing” with a fountainlike product design to allow multiple individuals to clean their hands at one time – while conserving water and floor space. A century later, Bradley has led the industry with a multitude of innovative solutions that make commercial washrooms more hygienic, functional, efficient and safe, serving the needs of architects, specifiers, contractors and owners worldwide. Its advanced product offerings include a range of Division 10 products, such as accessible washroom products and accessories, bariatric grab bars and shower seats, matching touchless soap dispensers and faucets, toilet partitions in multiple materials and privacy options, HDPE lockers and benches and more. Bradley is now part of Watts Water Technologies’ family of brands. More recently, Bradley has been focusing on developing products that elevate commercial washroom designs in terms of functionality, aesthetics and uniformity. The company’s expanding portfolio of washroom products are helping designers create complete and cohesive looks with carefully curated and matching product styles and finishes. One of Bradley’s newest Division 10 product lines – Elvari™ Washroom Accessories Collection -- helps designers achieve a modern and cohesive look, while adding functionality to both the
20
toilet stall and handwashing areas. The products in this collection incorporate a common aesthetic with euro style pill-shape design that has smooth curves and soft edges for a harmonious and refined aesthetic. Elvari accessories include a wide array of must-have restroom fixtures such as grab bars, paper dispensers, waste receptacles, shelves, soap dispensers, LED mirrors and more. With Elvari, designers no longer have to settle for industrial and boring looking accessories. Elvari is available in a range of finishes including satin stainless, brushed bronze, brushed stainless, brushed black, brushed nickel and brushed brass. Another European-inspired design for restrooms, Bradley’s Euro Style Partitions, is an elegant collection of toilet partitions that transform washroom spaces into beautiful and welcoming retreats for users. A choice of three partition models, including Float Series, Lucent Series and Loft Series, provide clean, fresh, and modern design elements like enameled tempered glass, minimalist frameless construction and floating-on-air aesthetics. Advanced new materials, sturdy construction, user privacy and maintainability complement the sophisticated look of each model. Occupancy indicators guide restroom traffic.
About Bradley While celebrating a century of success, Bradley continues to make an incredible industry-wide impact. That’s because they’ve never wavered from the commitment to their ultimate vision: to be the most complete and advanced source for commercial washrooms, and create the safest solutions for industrial environments. Using their four pillars of innovation, family, quality, and customer as a foundation, they deliver on these tenets with a first-rate sales force, passionate and dedicated employees, a rich, innovative history and an eye focused on the future. RMR Solutions Initiatives are Underway!
What is Recurring Monthly Revenue? Recurring Monthly Revenue (RMR) is the predictable total revenue generated by your business from all the active subscriptions in a particular month. In the Security Integrations space, RMR consists of service plans, maintenence agreements, software support plans, managed access control or video surveillance, intrusion and fire alarm monitoring, security device health monitoring, inspections, and more. Making Headway In 2023’s fourth quarter, Cook & Boardman Group had several branches work diligently on increasing opportunities to earn recurring revenue. Specifically, we witnessed significant traction occur within A3 Communication’s branch in Maine, who earned managed access business for five new customers! The central managed services team can now support these customers on a daily basis. Similarly, the team at Advantech earned a large Service Plan (maintenance agreement) Contract with
the Wilmington Police Department valued at $9,564/ monthly, or around $115K/annually. Through this contract, Advantech will provide parts and labor services for Wilmington’s city-wide video surveillance system, in support of public safety. In addition to the above successes, there are several other initiatives underway to deploy RMR solutions within our Division 8 branches, utilizing inspection software to provide detailed and formal inspection documents for facility managers for all of their building openings. More information will be provided on this new solution moving forward. As a reminder, if you have recurring revenue opportunities where CBG can provide superior, holistic services to clientele, please contact me at whickox@cookandboardman.com to discuss. La Vergne, TN

When I joined this branch in 2023, I quickly saw this team had cultivated a strong, positive culture that was grounded in teamwork - the characteristic that defines and determines success! This culture was also built on the
core values of this company: SERVE. Having been in this industry for over 20 years, I can assure you it is rare to find a team that understands the complexity of what it takes to be successful in this space. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of a team that can step into that complexity and achieve it. Each person here takes responsibility and is willing to do the work to provide the support needed. I am proud and excited to now be one of the leaders driving the future of our branch! Purchasing, pre-install, hardware packing, door production, frame production, shipping, receiving, project management, detailing, estimating, project coordinators and sales teams have all been instrumental in helping us grow our business.” Rob Owen, Director of Enterprise Accounts “What truly makes La Vergne special is the people within it— their dedication, expertise, compassion, and collaborative spirit. Together, we form a dynamic team that is always ready to adapt and innovate. Each member brings unique talents and perspectives, fostering an environment of creative problem solving while also holding a core set of shared values. It’s this unity and shared commitment that enables our success and makes this a great place to work.” Robbie Harris, Branch Operations Manager
