T h e G o s p e l o f M a t t h e w By David Thomas The editor of The Homilist in Eng land during the last half of the nine teenth century is well known for his rich expository work. This volume and the one on the Acts of the Apos tles is being reissued by Baker Book House in The Baker Reprint Library. It was originally published in 1873 under the title, The Genius of the Gospel. The treatment is in the form of 121 homilies, each of which is a major exposition. This book has been hard to get in secondhand condition and has been found quite useful in biblical survey courses. Moorehead was for many years professor of New Testament exegesis at United Presbyterian Sem inary and previous to that was a member of the faculty of Xenia Seminary in Ohio. From the king who had his thumbs cut off to the King who was crucified, Dr. Roberson has taken out of Israel’s history some incidents that can be applied in their teaching to present- day situations both within and with out the church. Dr. Roberson is pastor of the Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tenn. From 1,500 to 2,000 attend his midweek meeting. 103 pages; cloth; Sword of the Lord Publishers, Wheaton, 111.; $1.50. This is the last writing of the fa mous evangelical Anglican theolo gian. His daughter, who edited the book, says that she typed the original sheets for these chapters when she was his secretary. The material ran serially in The Christian of London just prior to the author’s death. He had intended to go through the entire Bible in this manner. In style this is a synoptic outline with introductions to each of the books, a preliminary chapter on Bible study and a final review chapter.
