WHOLESALER Q&A

TAPPING INTO THE SOLAR PV MARKET HAS PAID OFF IN DIVIDENDS FOR BELFAST-BASED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT GREENTECH… Giants in green energy sector

I reland’s Electrical Magazine chatted with Jake Keyworth, Ian Dornan and Michael McVeigh at Greentech, to hear their thoughts on the reasons for the company’s successful growth, their biggest achievements to date and aspirations for the future. EM: How has Greentech expanded since launching in 2014? We grew rapidly after our establishment due to the increase in Solar PV installs in Northern Ireland in line with ROC’s (Renewable Obligation Certificate) incentive. Once the incentive ended in 2017, rather than close this specialist area of our business we invested in it. Our sales increased both north and south of Ireland and with record returns in 2021 we are looking to continue growing and developing into 2022. EM: Can you tell us about your product range and how this has expanded in recent years? We offer JA Solar and Hanwha Q cell panels, Solis and Hoymiles inverters with Renusol mounting systems. We also offer EV charging with MyEnergi and Rolec, and battery storage with Puredrive and Pylontech. These are all available from our stock in Belfast and we also have access to over £3million of stock across our network of branches throughout the UK. EM: What have been the biggest challenges Greentech have faced and how have they overcome these? The biggest challenge was the end of the ROCs in 2017 and we had a big decision to make and ultimately decided to continue moving forward. Through quieter times, we provided training, attended seminars, conferences and trade shows. More recently, we have faced logistical challenges, however, we have invested our warehouse to hold more stock and taken on more staff to meet demand. EM: How has Greentech been tackling the specific challenges both Covid and Brexit have created for businesses in Northern Ireland? We have doubled stockholding in Belfast

and can now hold up to £1 million of stock at any one time thanks to investment in our stores to create more space. We were fully aware of potential complications and continue to do all we can to ensure customers don’t feel the impact. EM: Can you tell us what the company’s biggest achievement to date has been? I think being widely respected across Ireland as one of the market leaders. We get continuous calls following recommendations which means our customers are happy with the service received. EM: Moving forward, what plans does the company have to continue to grow and develop? We look to continue growing and developing as technology does. We see Green Energy as the future and want
