Great ‘craic’ at CSGL annual charity event

A charity cycling event was held by CSGL Electrical in November to raise funds for those who support mental health and suicide prevention. At their Ennis store in County Clare, suppliers and customers participated in a 1000km cycle challenge. Every year, CSGL holds a charity event to raise funds for different charities in the run- up to Christmas. This year, the team chose a cause close to their hearts, mental health, and suicide prevention. The team like to make the event fun for everyone involved including staff, customers, and suppliers, with no pressure on anyone to donate but

the emphasis being on participating and creating an awareness for the chosen charity. Some customers donated their time to clock up kilometres while others donated funds watching suppliers clock up the kilometres. The suppliers took a more competitive approach with each other, generating great fun for all involved. Customers input charity names to be beneficiaries for the total raised, with one charity being pulled from a hat. Fundraising will continue until the end of November with the company matching the total funds raised.

ETT reminds employers to remain committed to Level 3 recruitment and training

An authentic four-year Level 3 Diploma is recommended by ETT for providing the best foundation for a diverse and rewarding life-long career within the electrical sector. This is why they are promoting the Electrical Installation Apprenticeship to prospective school leavers. This year, the Department for the Economy introduced funding for a Level 2 Electrical Installation Traineeship programme. However no consultation or approval by the industry was sought after by the department. The

achievement of a Level 2 traineeship is not sufficient to become or be recognised as a fully qualified electrician, and the ETT is reminding employers of the realistic potential of a school leaver to achieve a Level 3 outcome should be considered before a trainee is admitted onto a Level 2 programme. ETT believes that new entrant workers are essential to the continuity and productivity of all industry sectors but is reminding employers to remain committed to Level 3 recruitment and training as the preferred entry point. www.ett-ni.org
