afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes into heaven. He beat on his chest crying for God to be merciful to him. He knew and readily admitted that he was a sinner. We are never to exalt our­ selves in prayer but rather ap­ proach the throne in humility. In Bergen, Norway, there is an ancient cathedral. Near the altar is a great painting of the Saviour, based on the words from the gospel of Mark 1:35, "In the morning, rising up a great while

before day, Jesus went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there He prayed." In the picture Jesus is standing with His hands clasped and His head bowed. He is in a solitary place as He is shown in a scene with a golden dawn just approaching. It is a deeply moving portrayal for all to see and a tre­ mendous sermon to me as I have looked upon it. How we should follow His leading and example as our lives are focalized to God in prayer.
