In honor of hip-hop’s 50th birthday, we’ve curated a list of must-see events and reads in its honor.

Acclaimed Author Mahogany L. Browne, Lincoln Center’s first poet-in-residence, wrote a love letter to hip-hop , composed entirely of lyrics both beloved and obscure. Celebrating 50 Years of Hip Hop: The Formative Albums and Songs of the 1970s - BET captured the essence of the early years in a video montage. There is no hip-hop without African American women, and the Netflix’s Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop — series released to coincide with the 50th anniversary. In Conversation: Cold Chillin’ Records Showcase - Join this live and in-person conversation to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the historic Cold Chillin’ Juice Crew All- Stars at the Apollo Theater on November 20th at 7:30 PM.
