Southern NJ Chapter Appraisal Institute 2015 Chapter Officers

ffective September 14, 2015, Joshua Garretson has earned his MAI designation. Joshua Garretson graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor
of Science in Finance and a minor in Economics. He joined the Appraisal Institute when he began his appraisal career in 2007 with FarmCredit East, formerly First Pioneer FarmCredit. Now a Senior Appraiser at Farm Credit East, Joshua specializes in valuing land and agricultural properties throughout Southern New Jersey. He has also appraised various other specialized property types includ- ing cold storages, food processing facilities, apartments, and office buildings. In addition to valuing real estate, he is also responsible for the management of all collateral in the branch portfolio, which includes a variety of vehicles, machinery, specialized equipment, and other chattel. He handles the ordering and reviewing of out- side appraisals for the branch and completes appraisal reviews in

Farm Credit East’s other offices throughout the northeast. Joshua is proud of earning his MAI designation and plans to continue to serve the Southern New Jersey Chapter of the Appraisal Institute as an officer. He intends to pursue the Appraisal Institute Review designations in the near future. By receiving the MAI designation, Josh has joined an elite group of appraisers who have met rigorous professional requirements relating to education, testing, experience and demonstration of knowledge, understanding and ability. The MAI designation is received upon the successful completion of a graduate-level curriculum, which includes a comprehensive exam, a written demonstration appraisal report and attaining 4,500 hours of qualifying experience requirements. Also, desig- nees must abide by both the appraisal profession’s Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and the Appraisal Institute’s Standards of Professional Practice and Code of Ethics. MAIs are recognized experts in appraising properties of all kinds and form a business network encompassing markets nationwide and around the world. Currently, about 8,000 real estate appraisal professionals hold the MAI designation, with another 3,400 practitioners seeking it. Josh will be presented his certificate at the installation dinner, to be held February 4. The 2016 National President, Scott Robinson, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS , will be on hand to make this presentation. Also on the chapter calendar is a dinner meeting/seminar, scheduled for November 17 at the Adelphia in Deptford. This event, Redevelopment in Southern New Jersey, is being presented by Anthony Perno, President & CEO, Cooper’s Ferry Partnership, and Donald Moore, SVP for Facilities and Operations, Rowan University. From buying Inversand Fossil Pit to the massive $300 million redevelopment project on Rowan Boulevard, a lot is happening at Rowan University -- the growth is incredible! Donald Moore will present many topics on what has been happening lately, and what more is in store for the University. The Camden Riverfront and its surrounding area continues to grow. Anthony Perno, an expert on the revitalization of Camden, will present on where the ideas were born, how they were developed, and what is on the horizon. Mr. Perno appears on behalf of Cooper’s Ferry Partnership, a non-profit real estate development corporation based in Camden, focused on a city-wide development strategy that leverages Camden’s cultural, natural, and institutional anchors to create transformative change throughout the neighborhoods and downtown.
