Investor confidence is being shaken by the politicisation of net zero targets in the UK, according to trade body, the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA). ECA member firms are investing heavily in EV infrastructure, battery storage, solar PV and low energy heating, and need government to adopt a consistent approach and work together with industry to develop the policies, technologies and skills needed to reach net zero. Paul Reeve, ECA Director of CSR, said, “Rishi Sunak’s overall direction of travel towards achieving net zero has not changed. But a delay in the timescale will undoubtably shake the confidence and plans of many large and small businesses alike, not to mention consumers.” The delays could, however, create opportunities to move to a ‘technology agnostic’ approach rather than focusing on one or two low carbon fixes, adopt fairer pricing for low carbon technology, ramp up EV charging infrastructure and invest in training and skills. www.eca.co.uk ECA hits out at politicisation of net zero targets
