COVER STORY

STeP BY STeP with OEKO-TEX

Blåkläder’s flame resistant range is produced to the same sustainability standards as its other collections. The clothes are made at its factories in Myanmar and Sri Lanka in a health-focused working environment. Environmental manufacture is also a focus, with the factories operating climate-smart operations and using solar energy from roof panels. All four sewing factories in Sri Lanka are STeP by OEKO-TEX certified – assurance that its production is sustainable from a quality, environmental and social perspective. Blåkläder has close, long-term relationships with its suppliers of materials and components, and knows every partner in the chain well. Each individual part of Blåkläder’s garments has been carefully chosen, and the business knows how, where and under what conditions each component is made. Its most important material suppliers are also STeP by OEKO-TEX certified, which means textile manufacturing is generally sustainable.

Blåkläder believes a close, transparent supply chain is the path to fundamental sustainability. Quote: “Even clothing that

appears to have nothing to do with flame protection can be hugely important in minimising the consequences if an accident should happen.”
