Jacob’s Ladder G e n e s is 28:10-22

h e idea o f communication between heaven and earth, between God and man, is suggested. With all our mod ern means of communication on earth-Sê the steamship, locomotive, automobile, telephone, telegraph, wireless, airplane, ra dio—we are very limited in our communi cation with heaven. None o f these aid us in our communication with God. W e have only one way of approach and access to God, and that is through Jesus Christ. I. The Need o f Communication. A ladder set up on earth and reaching to heaven reminds us o f the great separa tion which exists between man and God be cause o f sin. Man is separated from God ; he needs to get back to God. And Christ is the way. II. The Means o f Communication. The ladder was set up on earth, and it reached to heaven. It was long enough. If we want to go to heaven from earth, we must have a ladder long enough. There are many leaders set up on earth which do not reach heaven. Good works, church membership, Eddyism, Russellism, Spirit ism, and modernism are all too short. Only the Christ o f God is sufficient. III. A Safe Way o f Communication. The ladder must be strong enough as well as long enough. Christ meets the need. He was a Man, not an angel; He was a sinless Man; He was a substitute Man, He died for us ; He was a sovereign Man, He arose again ; He was a supernatural Man, He ascended into heaven and is seated there, able to save to the uttermost. He alone is able to take us to heaven. IV . The Freedom o f Communication. Angels o f God ascended and descended with perfect freedom upon that, ladder. Communion and fellowship with God is ours in Christ. Our petitions, needs, rer- quests, and prayer ascend to God through Him. And God’s promises, power, and blessings descend to us through Him. V. The Way to Use the Ladder. Hands must grasp, and feet must tread. There must be the grasp of faith and the tread o f obedience. As we climb the lad der from earth to heaven, we grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord. As we rise above the fog banks o f sin, and the clouds o f iniquity, we behold the glories o f God, hear His voice, and finally see His face.—W . H. G r if f it h T h o m a s , Arranged by H. C.
