RMHC HONG KONG

Ronald McDonald House is the core program of RMHC Hong Kong. The House in Shatin is the first House in Asia, providing “home away from home” service. RMHC Hong Kong has been committed to a “Family-Centered Care” service model, providing temporary residence and psychosocial support to families with seriously ill children. RMHC Hong Kong has been serving children suffering from cancers, cardiovascular, kidney or rare diseases. The House provides a comfortable and hygienic environment to reduce the risk of bacterial infection. In addition, the House’s proximity to the hospital ensures that these young patients can receive immediate care; the diverse facilities take care of the daily needs and promote a mutual support environment for the families.

CHAIRPERSON’S Message

RMHC Global Board of Trustees RMHC Hong Kong Chairperson Ms. Grace Fung Oei

A very warm welcome to the RMHC Hong Kong Gala Dinner 2024. This evening, we celebrate our dream and the possibilities that love can bring, under tonight’s inspiring theme “Let the Dream Fly”. As the shadow of the pandemic recedes, it is time to dream boldly and soar to new heights as we unleash our impact and reignite our purpose. In our community, our impact and purpose are quite special. The first RMHC in Asia was established in Hong Kong. We opened our first House in 1996 and established a unique position of focusing not only on the sick children, but on their families as well. Since then RMHC Hong Kong has been a prime advocate in bringing the “Family-centered care” model of health care to life. We have created an environment where families can stay together, find solace, and connect with each other during the most difficult time in their lives. Late last year, we took a significant step forward in our mission when we opened our second House in Kwun Tong. With 66 rooms, the new House will provide an additional 24,000 overnight stays each year for families with children who are sick, tripling the scale of operations for RMHC Hong Kong. 16 years in the making, this milestone represents the fulfilment of a dream that once seemed out of reach. It began as a single, earnest aspiration to expand our capacity to support more families in HK when HK Government announced in its 2007 Policy Address the intention to set up a centre of excellence in paediatrics (CEP). As we opened the doors to our second House in Nov 2023, we marked not just the end of a long journey, but the beginning of a new chapter in our history of keeping families together and providing “Family-centered care” and invaluable psychosocial support and resources for families with seriously ill children in HK.

The opening of our new House also reminded us that dreams, bold or humble, can come true when we commit ourselves fully to them. With relentless dedication, purposeful collaboration, and unyielding love, the possibilities are endless. We can indeed make a profound impact on the lives of those in need. And, if our dream can become a reality, we owe it to others to help them pursue theirs. I am pleased to be serving on RMHC Global Board of Trustees, especially as we celebrate RMHC Global’s Golden Jubilee this year. While 50 years is a significant milestone, we continue to keep the dream alive to meet the needs of sick children and their families. As we honor our past, we reaffirm our commitment to expanding and enhancing our services, ensuring that we support and uplift those who rely on us. I agree with Dr Audrey Evans, one of our Mission Founders, that “When you care for others, it’s infectious and it can spread to create change and extraordinary impact”. I cannot wait to see what the next 50 years will bring. Together, we will dream bigger, work harder, and strive to make an even greater impact in the lives of those we serve. Thank you again for your support!

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S Message

RMHC Hong Kong CEO Dr. Francesca Sin

How lovely it is to welcome you all to this truly special evening. This year marks a momentous milestone of 50 years of operation and service for RMHC Global. It is such an honor to have you here with us as we reflect on the dream that started it all and the enduring vision that continues to inspire us. RMHC keeps families together by providing a ‘home away from home’ close to the critical care their sick child needs. More than just a place to stay, our Houses provide psychosocial support and resources, educational activities and programs, as well as a safe and nurturing environment. By surrounding children with love, RMHC helps them heal, dream, and spread their wings. This is why we have chosen “Let the Dream Fly” as the theme for our Gala Dinner this year: We have a dream too, and that is to ensure that no dream is out of reach for the children we serve. This itself is a monumental aspiration that requires not just all of us but a collective effort from every corner of our community. The bigger the dream, the more talent we need to make it a reality. We are actively expanding our team, recruiting professionals from diverse fields to enhance our capabilities. This strategic growth will allow us to deliver a broader range of services to address the evolving needs of families—whether it is through infrastructure and facilities or comprehensive mental, social, and emotional support. All of us on our team yearn to use our knowledge and skills to make a genuine difference. Together we will develop more programs that not only serve our current families but also extend continuity of care to former House residents.

care. We are dedicated to ensuring that, when a child is ill, the entire family receives the comfort and support they need and is actively involved in their child’s care alongside healthcare providers. We will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders to advocate for family-centered care in the medical network, creating more support for this pivotal, values-based approach. In addition, we are focused on integrating family-centered care into every aspect of our facilities, services, and programs to empower families and help them navigate the challenges of illness together. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Gala Committee for their dedicated efforts; all of the sponsors for your unfailing support who are making this event a roaring success. My special vote of thanks also goes to our special guests for your splendid performance tonight. As we look ahead to the future, we are filled with anticipation and hope, eager to continue working alongside our incredible partners to extend our impact and reach even more families with ill children. Together, let us turn our aspirations into achievements and let every child’s dream soar!

As this cherished dream takes flight, we remain grounded in our philosophy of family-centered
