Creation Day 2: Why God Separated the Mayim
Is Daniel 12:3 referring to the same expanse that is mentioned in Genesis 1:7 ? The brightness of the expanse could be referring to the brightness of the sky during the day . It could also be referring to the shining stars at night. Either way, the parallelism here is favorable to either description in Genesis 1:7; where we find ultraviolet rays of sunlight passing through earth's surrounding blanket of atmospheric gases during the daylight hours (the expanse below) ; or, it could also be describing the stars shining in the heavens above the earth at night ( the expanse above ).
Daniel 12:3 also makes reference to t wo main reason s God divided the waters ( mayim ) of the heavenly expanse ( raqia ) into two separate realms : • He wanted a create a perfect environment with a perfect mixture of the right chemical elements required for his ultimate creation, man, to both live and thrive; • God also wanted His ultimate creation , man, to one day ; "shine like the brightness of the expanse; and turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever."
