Unlike the mineral-rich crust and mantle, God made Earth's core almost entirely of metal—specifically, iron and nickel. The core is also made of two layers: a liquid iron nickel outer core, which borders the mantle ; and the solid iron nickel inner core. Earth's two separate cores act together as a single dynamo , or generator - a devise for converting mechanical energy to electrical energy . For a planet to have a n internal dynamo , it must : • rotate at a constant speed ; • it must have a fluid medium in its interior able to conduct electricity ; • and it must have an internal energy supply that drives the circulation of the liquid. A dynamo moves continuously without an outside energy source.
