Creation Day 3: God creates the Earth using His Special Mayim 11 4
The Science behind Earth's Internal D y n a mo
Nucleus
Every substance God created is made up of tiny units called atoms. Each atom has electrons, particles that carry a negative electric charge. Spinning like tops, God programmed atoms to act as tiny dynamos with electrons circl ing the nucleus, or core, of an atom. Their movement generates an electric current and causes each spinning electron to act like a tiny magnet. In most substances, equal numbers of electrons spin in opposite directions, which cancels out their magnetism. That is why materials such as paper or clothe are not magnetic. In substances such as iron and nickel, most of the electrons spin in the same direction. This makes the atoms in these substances strongly magnetic—but they are not yet magnets. There are only two ways substances can become magnetic: • When electricity runs through a coil of wire, it produces a magnetic field. The magnetic field around the wire will disappear the moment the electric current is turned off . • When the atoms of magnetic substances such as iron and nickel spin in the same direction. The spinning and orbiting of (-) electrons around of an atom's (+) nucleus produces a magnetic field the same way the earth's rotating liquid iron nickel core produces a protective magneti c shield around the Earth. Here is a picture of how it works.
