Scientists are still trying to figure out exactly why Earth is the only known planet in the entire universe with life, but the reason is simple. God designed and perfectly positioned Earth in space to be His "Goldilocks" planet ( just right! ) with plenty of liquid water on it surface for sustaining life. He al so designed the water molecule with a hidden ability to change from a liquid to a gas without reaching the boiling point. Here is how it works.
The heat required to evaporate water (change it's state from a liquid to a gas) without an increase in temperature is 540 calories . This is called the latent heat of vaporization. Latent heat is the energy needed to break the hydrogen-bonds holding the water molecules together in the liquid state .
When water evaporates, each molecule of water vapor in the air traps 540 calories of the latent heat . The word “latent” means hidden or not seen. When a liquid evaporates it uses 540 calories of heat from the liquid to change into a vapor. That is why when a breeze passes over our sweaty face we suddenly feel cooler. That 's because the sweat released by our skin evaporates into water vapor cooling our bodies by taking 540 calories of heat away from our skin into the surrounding air.
