Chapter Nine Genesis Chapter One - Creation Day Three Verses 11 - 1 3 (God creates the "chemical" breath of life)

׃ ותוצא הארץ דשא עשב מזריע זרע למינהו ועץ עשה פרי אשר זרעו בו למינהו וירא אלהים כי טוב Then God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them" ; and it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. There was evening and there was morning, a third day. ~ Genesis 1:1 1-1 3 ESV Have you ever stopped and thought about how many times you breathe air into your lungs in one minute? The answer is - somewhere between 12 to 20 breaths per minute is the normal respiration rate for a healthy teenager or an adult. This next question might sound ridiculous at first, but you'll soon understand why I am asking it. Have you ever stopped to give serious thought as to the real reason we breath in air? One of the best-known verses in the Bible gives us the answer. Genesis 2:7 , “And the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living soul.” This verse sets a pattern for the rest of the Bible, where breath is often equated with life itself. In fact, references to breath or breathing are frequent in the Bible, with many allusions to God as the giver of breath (and life) to man and animals. It was God's initial breath of life that turned man from a lifeless collection of matter (see element chart on the previous page) into a living creature. From that moment until today, mankind is still breathing into their lungs the life- sustaining element oxygen that presently makes up 21% of the air you breath into your lungs between 12 to 20 breaths per minute.
