Creation Day 4 God reveals His "heavenly clocks" in the night and day sky Circadian Clocks: God's Perfect Timing
Just like people, God created all plants and animals with specific internal hormones t hat rely on the 24-hour rhythms of da y and night to function. In plants, the hormone auxin regulates things such as the daily opening and closing of flowers and changes in leaf position that many plants display during the day and night. One of the best examples of how plants respond to the their internal circadian clocks is the sunflower.
Before the break of dawn, young sunflowers face east awaiting the rising of th e sun. Once the sun rises, the sunflowers follow the sun's path, swing ing from east to west through out the day . Once the sun sets in the west, the sunflowers turn back to the east at night, anticipating the timing and the direction of the rising sun . Scientists call this amazing daily movement of plants heliotropism , which means "sun turning." Scientists have also discovered how the plant hormone auxin controls this daily movement. During the morning, when plants are tracking the rising sun, auxin production increases rapidly on the east side of the sunflower's stem causing the flowering plants to turn westward. At night, auxin production decreases on the east of the stem and increases on the west side causing the sunflower to swing east once again, patiently a waiting the rising sun.
